Plains Weather Network Data Problem
« on: February 28, 2009, 10:55:31 AM »
After signing up for the Plains Weather Network I bit the bullet and created a primitive web page to display the PWN mesomap, which works \:D/ http://www.gwwilk.com/PlainsWeatherNetwork.php

However, my Lincoln, NE lightning detector isn't shown iconically on the Plains Weather Network Mesomap.  I have a Boltek PCI detector running NexStorm and I contribute to StrikeStar US. How can I get this info listed?

My current conditions aren't displayed properly on the Mesomap, e.g. it's now overcast but the Mesomap shows 'clear'.  I've tried to adjust my Weather Display parameters to reflect the correct conditions, but without success.  I'm downloading the Metar from the local airport, KLNK, and have also tried creating my own with WD.  Do you have any hints?

Thanks!
Regards, Jerry Wilkins

Hi Jerry,

I can fix the station dot to reflect a lightning detector.  I'll take a look at the conditions reporting issue too.

Best regards,
Ken

Ok, dot and station description fixed :)

As for your icon not showing your conditions, you'll need to set up WD to use conditions from a nearby Metar (like KLIN for you).  The iconnumber=5 is just a placeholder that WD uses to indicate 'Dry' as opposed to 'Raining' and it shows the little sun icon on the map day and night.

You can use Kevin's excellent WD Clientraw Parser to show the current clientraw.txt interpreted.  The offsets 48 and 49 show

048   Icon Type   Z   5 (Dry Clear)
049   Weather Desc   L   Sunny/Dry

If you have a solar sensor, then this might be helpful for your setup.  If no solar sensor, try these

Hope this helps...

you can make a simple solar sensor  by just set a thermometer in a jar and set up Wd to read it  or using the smart weather forecast in VWS to set cloud/sky conditions

Thanks, Ken.  I believe I have it all in place now, but time and weather may once again prove me wrong.  With the help of Brian's post that you referenced I think I got WD and PWN all set up the way I want.  If you want to see the WD page on my web site here it is:
http://www.gwwilk.com/WeatherDisplay/weatherdisplay.htm
I haven't tried to modify the WD web page from its default, and I'm not linking to it from my home page right now--it's way too busy the way I set it up.

Kevin's parser is indeed a work of art.  If my current conditions don't change appropriately, I'll be able to use it for further troubleshooting.

Kind regards,
Jerry
