Topic: WXforum.net upgrading to SMF 2.0.7 - Wed., 29-Jan-2014 1200-1400 Pacific

Well, the time has come to stop procrastinating the upgrade of the forum software from SMF 1.1.19 (last supported version)
to the currently supported version 2.0.7.   I've done a test conversion using a snapshot of the current forum and think I've
found (and experienced) and fixed the pitfalls, so...

The forum will be in 'Maintenance Mode' on Wednesday, 29-Jan-2014 from 1200-1400 Pacific time to do the conversion.
With luck, you may only have to login again after 1400.

Sadly, some of the features will not be the same after the conversion as SMF2.x has included some of those features into the base forum software or the mods the authors made were not updated to use SMF2.x

1) The Google Member Map is still offline as the author had never updated the script to Google Maps V3 API
2) The ignore board/ignore user functions may be different as some functionality has been included in the base SMF2.x code
3) The Tapatalk plugin will be updated to the 3.9.1 version as the older 2.1.0 version was not compatible with SMF2.

Thanks for the kind words    I'll try not to have the air-bags deploy.

We will be keeping the WXForum.net logo and stream-of-weather-conditions image, so that will look familiar.

We're also starting with the default SMF2 look/feel since it's the easiest for the modifications to be incorporated into.

I'll take a snapshot dump of the site+database after going into maintenance mode and the process will likely take less than the two hours allotted, but I like to have a bit of backup-time to handle any contingencies.  All the member IDs/posts/topics/stats will be preserved in the upgrade.

Here are a couple of screen captures from the test site to show what it will look like.

Hi Ken,

Hope all goes well with this impending upgrade.  Thanks for all the work for supporting our hobby.

One item I hope that you can resolve for me is in the Profile area where "I have my own pic:" won't stick the URL that I am trying to use so it can update the web cam image.

Hi Stan,

The avatar picture is a 'load-once and cache' image .. that is, a static picture loaded in the forum when you specify it in the Forum Profile settings.  For a dynamic image, you'd have to place it in your signature and use bbCode [img]http://....[/img] to have it dynamically load the current picture.
Can't do that with an avatar image.. sorry!
