My husband's birthday is coming up and he used to talk about wanting a purple air sensor. We live in California and have had more than I'd like to see wildfires and poor air quality in our area. -BUT- in the past year we have had two neighbors who have bought these sensors. One is ~400 meters away, NW of us. Another ~500 meters away, SE. And once my husband said with these two sensors, there is not a lot of value to another one for us.
What do you think? Buy him the gadget?
He also has in the past wanted his car detailed, so that's an alternative gift.

YES!
Air quality can vary from one area to another even in close distances, and also difference inside and outside.

Thanks for the reply. He has the Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station. Does it make sense to get the Davis air quality monitor too?
I like that the Purple air contributes to community use. We all (here in our fire zones) really depended on all our local sensors, so the idea of contributing to that community is appealing.

The Davis Airlink was later to market than the Purple air so is probably behind in terms of sales, but its growing. They contribute automatically (if you allow it) to a community map - https://www.weatherlink.com/map/ - you can select between temperature (from Davis weather stations) and air quality overlays.

If he wants a purple air sensor, then, by all means, you need to buy this thing and give it to you for your birthday. You have no idea how much he will be happy with such a gift.
