Ambient weather PM2.5 sensor gone "loco"
« on: May 13, 2020, 02:10:39 PM »
Scenario.
1. Way higher than normal reporting on units, roughly 50 ug/m^3 (for roughly a week)
2. Replaced batteries, waited an hour for a number of results, no difference
3. I happen to have a spare unit, using the same batteries as original unit, and same location (snapped into same base), numbers dropped to a agreeable 8-10 ug/m^3

Screen cap off Ambientweather.net , you can see where I swapped units

I now have placed the wacky unit in a drawer , without batteries , and will try again in a week or so to see if it behaves.

Another screen cap from Ecowitt.net, look at the scales on the left. You can see where I brought it the 2nd unit, and also how the 1st unit just went silly.

Anyone else experience this ?

I have seen wacky results and that I put down at the time to low power.
I also suspected it could have got 'crap' into its sensor.
Remember it is sucking air into its sensor via a little fan every ten minutes.

At the time I dismantled it carefully and blew out the sensor and fully charged the battery and its been fine since. I also relocated the sensor to a more sheltered location as I was concerned that heavy rain can ingress the sensor which people should consider.
