I bought a snazzy Acurite station with the cool TFT display for Christmas. It took me 30 seconds to have the data reporting to the Web when I opened it. The entire station (sensor suite plus console) cost me $80 bucks on the Black Friday sale. I can read the display from any place in the room or adjacent rooms day or night.
Having said that, I find myself continuing to use my old VP2 for records keeping. I like how the Davis console will display daily data for many days backward if I don't update my records for a while. I like how the Davis displays rainfall data also. I like how the Davis updates wind speed every couple of seconds and never misses gusts during storms.
Also, the Davis station is nearly 12 years old now and it just simply works. It doesn't matter what the weather does, or whether I neglect to clean it or not, the entire thing just works. Year after year after year.
I think with Davis, it really is about quality. With the others, it's about appearance. Each have their place.
