Error setting Archive Interval
« on: March 10, 2011, 06:18:22 AM »
Hey there, installed Weather Link for the first time, connected my Vue and did the the walkthrough setup steps.

All gone to plan untill it asked me to set the archive interval. I selected 1 minute, clicked OK and a window pops up saying 'Error setting Archive Interval'

Anyone know why this may be? I have tried doing the same whilst the Vue is connected but in Setup Mode, and still the same.

How can I check what the Archive Interval is currently? Do most people have it set to 1 minute? Is it how often each variable is recorded to the USB Logger Memory? I'd like my graphs as acurate as possible really

Thanks

James

What weatherLink version (and Vue firmware) do you have?

1 minute is really a bit of an overkill but then what ever takes your fancy but the 1 minute archive has nothing to do with the error you are experiencing.

The archive interval is the interval an archive is written to the database which can be checked when you download under the Browse the Station data button. In saying the archive interval is how often each variable is recorded is technically correct but it is not necessarily recorded at a single point in time, same are averages, some are highs, some are lows etc.

A 10 minute archive is a more common standard to use.

As far as the error is concerned once you do the initial walkthrough etc go back and try setting the archive separately.

What's probably happening is that archive interval is correctly set but there's a bug in WL in a few Windows installations that doesn't allow enough time for the acknowledgement to get back to the program. But try switching between a couple of archive intervals and see if the previous setting was actually correctly set even though an error was flagged.

When this error is seen, switching the logger to VCP (serial) mode will generally clear the issue.

What version of WeatherLink are you using?

johnd (who probably knows) said you're using the USB interface.  Is that what you're using?

Can we assume that you aren't using any other weather software in addition to WeatherLink?

Thanks for your responses!

Flag - Cheers yeah that explains what I was wondering. I will change it to 5 when it lets me without the error.
Firmware of Console is 212 and version of WL is 5.9.2.

I have tried setting it seperately yes, Setup > Set Archive Interval with the same problem remaining.

John - Okay, I have clicked 5 minutes, error message appeared, now going to Browse the Station Data to see what increment is now being used.

Dalevoy - Yes John knows it the USB connection I am using, as it was him that sold me the setup (brilliant service). No other weather software installed.

Regards

James

Changed to 5, error appeared - now browsed my data and I can confirm that it is now 5 second intervals! ;-) I'll just ignore it. No problems

Wil get onto updating it asap.

On another note, I noticed that the logger had come loose within the slot - maybe the wire had pulled it.
Will I of lost any data from that period that the logger wasnt attached the console?

Cheers

I am also interested in a definitive anwer to this, because I had a similar experience where the logger fell out, possibly for up to a day  (while troubleshooting USB drop-outs) and when reconnected, I still seemed to have uninterrupted strip-charts for that period, though I did not browse the data.  I know that even without a logger the console stores a bunch of data so you can review it on the LCD graphs in increments of hours/days/months, so perhaps there is a chance to recover that somehow.  It would be nice to know for sure how that works.

Two things:

1. The logger does need to be pushed _firmly_ on to its pins. Obviously installing the logger needs to be done carefully, ensuring that all the pins are correctly lined up before applying pressure and stopping if any resistance is felt that might be due eg to misaligned pins. But if the alignment seems OK then a fair amount of pressure can be used to ensure that the logger is fully home on its pins. Sometimes new users are understandably a bit timid about applying pressure at first installation and hence the logger ends up looser than it should be.

2. Try to ensure that the USB lead is not taut and pulling on the logger. Otherwise, over time, cable tension will loosen the logger on its pins.

The logger probably won't operate correctly if one or more pins is not making contact at all and yes, unavoidably, data logging during any such time will be missed. It may need a console power cycle to reinitialise the logger after any such episode.
