I need to find a serial card for my PC. USB to serial cables are not working. Any suggestions on a new card?

My pc has a serial port which I use.... but I have been looking at new pc's and almost none now ship with a serial port.   I was surprised to see how much it costs for a PCI card.  Still only about $35-60, but when you see all the firewire, usb2 even esata stuff you can get for about $14....   I guess the manufucturs know there is a captive market, especially since none of the pc manufacturuers seem to be using them anymore.   A lot of pc's used by retail stores need at least one or two serial ports...

Which brands of USB to serial adapters have failed to work for you?

Not for sure on the name. I have just used one. I ordered it from Tiger Direct, it had 25-30 good reviews. I guess one one used it for a weather station. Any way I swapped PC's with my son(I forgot his has a serial port.) and everything is running great now.
