Bloomsky lost connection
« on: April 22, 2016, 03:22:00 PM »
Wednesday evening, my Bloomsky lost connection and wasn't updating.  I didn't notice until Thursday morning.  I tried the WIFI reset in the directions of the Android app.  The device would go through the motions, WIFI light red, then yellow, then green. But it would never update.

After contacting BM Support, they state that the green WIFI light means it is connecting to my WIFI network, but not updating.  The recommending using an IPhone and try it again.  I don't have one.  But they also gave me a web form to fill out with all my information like device ID, email, etc.  I filled out the form using the same BWNET Bloomsky name I've been already using.  Hopefully they'll be able to connect it back up to my existing site since I already have 24 people watching.  Email said form will take 24-48 hours.  So I'll report back once I know more.

I did a bit more work on my Bloomsky.  I followed their directions on the http://bloomsky.desk.com site for debugging.  With a WIFI laptop, put the Bloomsky in discovery mode by holding the WIFI button for 8 seconds.  When the red light is blinking, there is supposed to be WIFI SSID showing up with your device ID as a name.  Mine doesn't.  I emailed them back.

Guessing my WIFI part is dead, even though the lights are working.

I've had a similar problems with my Bloomsky.   After having it for one month it lost connection and I could never get it back online.  It would connect to the network and let me name it but never fully connect to Bloomsky and post images or data.   I literally spent hours trying everyway to get it working but nadda.  To resolve it they sent me a new one which, knock on wood is still working :D   As mentioned when they work they are great but when they get flaky it becomes a PIA....

They do sent replacements if you request a new one.

After some more back and forth emails with Bloomsky, they've determined I have a bad device.  Shipping a new one out.

Unfortunately, I also lost all of my data and followers.  They had me delete the device from my settings and re-install it.  That didn't help...

Good news they are sending you a replacement.   Once you post the new device link hopefully most of the followers favorite it again.  It does stink about losing the historical data.

OK, but honestly - it amazes me how many people have to get replacment and worries me because it is a really ambitious and great project, but still a startup and this way they will never be able to make profit.

I was one of the lucky ones that got mine basically free.  If I had paid for mine, I'd be fairly steamed right now.  But so far, they are treating their customers half way decent.

I think they really need to make sure they get the defective ones back and start researching what is going wrong.  If they don't get their reliability up to close to Davis Instruments quality, I don't think they'll be that successful.

I know personally if mine keeps failing, I'll start researching switching to a Hikvision or similar product.  I just like how out of the can, I can get pictures and a timelapse to my site fairly easily.  But if the reliability continues, it won't be worth the hassle for me.

Received my replacement Bloomsky.  I had to delete my old one and add in the new one. But since I gave it the same name as the previous one, all of my previous signed up people showed up.

I just need to get into the Wun page and get it re-sending to WeatherUnderground.

If you already added me before, you're probably already back in there.

My Wunderground is uploading with pictures, so that's good.  Now I'm just waiting for my Davis site to start using those pictures.
