CWOP setup for dummies.
« on: October 20, 2020, 02:04:10 PM »
I have tried over the last couple of days to get my PWS setup to send data to CWOP, but I'm unable to get past signing up for a station ID. I tried to follow the steps but it seems some of the links are not working and I can't figure out how to get to the point where I send data and get my position verified.

Can someone please post step-by-step instructions how to get setup? I'm not usually inept when it comes to technology, but I'm having trouble with this.

Thanks; Steve

Are you uploading to Weatherlink.com yet?

If not then what other online services have you configured to upload to, and what logger/software are you currently using?

We can't provide you instructions until we know what you have. The process is different for each station type or software choice.

Typically the process goes like this and is pretty straight forward:

1. Register for CWOP ID by sending request email
2. Start uploading test data using CWOP ID given (you just enter in the CWOP ID into your method of upload and set upload interval)
3. Verify location and elevation

Thank you for the reply. I am presently using WeatherTracker because WeatherLink won't work on my Mac. I have an ID and have uploaded data, but when I go to the findU site, I can't find where to enter my ID so I can verify the information; instead I see information from another station. I have successfully uploaded data to PWSweather with no problems. I was uploading to weather cloud, but for some reason that one is not working anymore. Weather underground is telling me I'm offline.

Thanks; Steve

Thanks. I did that and I'll see if it makes it and let you know.

Never. That is not a valid link.

But this is:

Your location is wrong. Longitude should be negative or W (for West) for your location.

Actually there is a second problem (besides the W or Negative missing on Longitude)...You have reversed Latitude and Longitude.

It's correct on my software and my location is precise on PWSweather. I don't know what to do about that.

Okay...I found WeatherTracker documentation online and I got the following configuration picture.

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

You need to flip the Latitude and Longitude numbers that you have entered. Notice that confusingly they list Latitude second. Notice also that your Latitude is N and your Longitude should be W. Your raw CWOP upload shows that it is not configured correctly. These settings are only for CWOP, it is irrelevant that PWSweather and other uploads are working correctly as this only affects CWOP.

Hmmm. Mine doesn't have the lat/long boxes. Thanks for the help, I'll work on it again after a while. I really appreciate it.

I found the problem, the astronomy setting is where I had the lat/long flipped and that's where the COWP gets it's position information. I really appreciate your taking the time to help me with this. I'll let you know if I have other questions.

Thanks; Steve

On the findU page my precise position is exactly right, what do I do to verify it?

Send an e-mail to CWOP-support <at> noaa.gov giving your CWOP designator and state that you have verified your mapped location and request to be registered so that your data can flow to NOAA via MADIS.

Then wait until next Wednesday to show up on MADIS as the database is only updated once a week.
