Weather Station Hardware > What Weather Station Should I Buy?

Would this Ecowitt System Work?

I had a weather station setup for about 15 years but because of moving I have to give it up about 5 years ago. My setup was a Davis Vue, A Boltek lightning detector, outdoor camera and ran Weather Display. I sold everything once I had moved. I am back to a place where I can again put up a weather station but now Davis is a bit out my price range due to being on retirement so looking to see if I have this system figured out right.

I'm looking at using an Ecowitt GW3000, WH40H, WS80 and WH57. I know the WH57 will not give me information about lightning anywhere close to what the Boltek did, just looking to get some lighting count data. Also, how accurate is the temperature sensor / radiation shield or should I look to get a remote sensor and make my own shield? I'll most likely stick with WD as I've used it for many years, just make a donation to Brian so I can get my long lost registration code back.

Thanks for any insight anyone can give me.

The configuration you mention is exactly what I'm running which replaced my VP1 3 years ago, I've since added some more sensors from Ecowitt. I also run CumulusMX now (not Weather Display) mainly because it runs the identical code in Linux as it does in Windows as I am now 100% Linux here.

Thanks Stuart, just the info I was looking for. I believe I remember you from the WD forum!

There is some excellent info in the Wiki:

Looks like they wont ship WS80s into the US so will have to look for another setup. :(
