Customized Server Settings
« on: January 06, 2020, 01:44:30 PM »
UPDATE:  I did end up buying a GW1000 as advised. It works well with my WS-1400-IP.

The WS View Android/iOS software is kinda funky, had to switch between two Android and two iPhone devices to get through all the menus without hanging or crashing...but stubbornness finally won out.

Indeed, they used an ESP8266 chip inside the device, as I suggested above. Nice chip for this type of application, and while the Android/iPhone software may be of poor design, it appears the device firmware is solid and stable. That's all that matters, really...

Question (please advise me if I should start a new thread for this...): I've seen a few threads that indicate there is a custom menu in the WS View software that would allow one to send data to PWSweather or other servers. I cannot find such a menu on my WS View version...is there a trick to access this menu, or did I misunderstand something?

Thanks for the advice regarding the GW1000...

Ecowitt "Customized Server" upload settings is reached within the WS View app.
Open WS View:
- Select your device
- More
- Weather Services
- press Next until you get to "Customized"
- There you fill in the fields and select the correct protocol type (Ecowitt or WU depending on service)

You can only configure these fields for one customized server.  If you want to expand beyond just the one customized server location then I suggest you expand your weather station hardware/software to include some other 3rd party software like: Cumulus MX, Meteobridge, Weather-Display, or WeeWx. The best way to support 3rd party software is by adding the GW1000 and then adding the 3rd party software to some other device.

There are other things you can do with Customized server settings besides these listed below.

Customized Server Settings

PWSweather
Protocol type: WU

Server:
pwsweather.com  or
www.pwsweather.com

Path:
/pwsupdate/pwsupdate.php?

Station ID: Your account station ID
Station Key: Your password (changing to a key soon)

Port:
80

Upload Interval:
(not less than 60 seconds. Also 300 seconds (5 minute) is very adequate too)

AWEKAS
Protocol type: WU

Server:
ws.awekas.at

Path:
/weatherstation/updateweatherstation.php?

Station ID: Your account username (NOT YOUR STATION ID)
Station Key: Your password

Port:
80

Upload interval:
300 seconds: for free account
60 seconds: for free AWEKAS plus accounts only after you click to accept the agreement
Less than 60 seconds: for paid AWEKAS Stationsweb subscription accounts

Here is a screen shot of the details I entered in the customized server settings just to make sure I entered them correctly  http://imgur.com/gallery/0x3fuGW

In the key field I entered my log in password for pwsweather web site, I didn't leave it blank.

Thank you for posting the image of your custom configuration for pwsweather dot com. I used it, and had no problems at all getting data from my ECOWITT GW1000 and connected sensors uploaded to pwsweather dot com.

Thanks again,
Bob

Not sure I understand what you are asking. There are only two parameters requested by the WOW settings in FO clones...the ID and the Key. How is that going to allow you to "be used for any other weather feed?"

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

To your other question, the WOW upload protocol is similar in construction to the WU protocol that AWEKAS does use. But I don't see how that is relevant unless you are coding your own upload script, which is out of the scope of this thread in discussing the "Customized" server upload settings.

Interesting to hear that (you don't care for it) as someone in the UK. When you look at the WOW map it is jam packed with stations in the UK. Seems obvious since it is a UK site. But the fact that it is so much more densely populated on the map in the UK led me to believe that it must be a popular goto source for for weather information by UK people. I have not found much to like either so I thought I must be missing something. Maybe there are a bunch of cheap stations sold over there that only report to WOW? Your comment has left me perplexed.

I signed up because of the Brand in UK and the unit allows, so signed up to all
BUT i find it clunky to navigate, and when compared to the info available from the other sites, not my usual goto site over the last few days.
maybe i'm missing something
A lot of the sites listed locally are also on the other sites also

plus i got a lot of

Our services aren't available right now
in the beginning , so didn't bother going back

Hello,

I would like to have more information before buying a HP2551 (= HP1000SE PRO from Froggit), the most imortant things is to send the weather station data to my own server. In the manual we can customize server setting (IP, port, interval, protocol) but I didn't see anything about the path to set my API path. So can we set the path or the protocol do everything ?

Thanks for your answer !

Hi!

Yes, you can change the path. Both for WU and Ecowitt. But there's only ONE custom server. So you have to decide: WU or Ecowitt to ONE target.

Yes, this is WS View under Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ost.wsview
This should also work with the HP2551 (HP1000SE PRO from Froggit).

That is the mobile app interface on managing the HP2551 display console. It is called WS View (free from FO/Ecowitt). It is available only for Android and iOS. It is also used to flash WiFi firmware updates to the HP2551 display console.

Customized Server Settings

PWSweather
Protocol type: WU

Server:
pwsweather.com  or
www.pwsweather.com

Path:
/pwsupdate/pwsupdate.php?

Station ID: Your account station ID
Station Key: Your password (changing to a key soon)

Port:
80

Upload Interval:
(not less than 60 seconds. Also 300 seconds (5 minute) is very adequate too)

Hello,

The guys from PWSweather informed me that the new server settings should be:

Server   www.pwsweather.com
Path   /api/v1/submitwx? (make sure you include the ?)
Station ID   The station ID you selected
Password   Your station's PWSweather.com API key
Port   80

However, I tried using the above settings and I could not make it work. Using the settings you provided ("/pwsupdate/pwsupdate.php?" for path) seems to be working, but the team from PWSweather told me that they are going to discontinue the old path.

Has anyone here managed to make the new path work?

Thanks,
Ilias

At least I tested this via web browser and it does work:

https://pwsupdate.pwsweather.com/api/v1/submitwx?ID=YOURID&PASSWORD=YOURPASSWORD&dateutc=2021-05-28+19:51:13&action=updateraw

and also

http://pwsupdate.pwsweather.com/api/v1/submitwx?ID=YOURID&PASSWORD=YOURPASSWORD&dateutc=2021-05-28+19:51:13&action=updateraw

Just use your credentials and try this link in your web browser.

Hello, thanks for the quick reply.

First of all I should mention that I need to use the settings above in "WS View" app, to send the weather data from my Froggit PWS.

Secondly, the link you provided is https://pwsupdate.pwsweather.com... whereas they instruct that the server should be pwsweather.com... (without "pwsupdate." in the beginning).

Third, in the PASSWORD section of the URL you provided I guess I should enter my API key, right? The JSON respond I am getting is just the following:

error   null
success true

Thanks again,
Ilias

Without pwsupdate you will get to their www-page and not to the API-endpoint. So they are having technical problems with the redirection currently or they were wrong with this information. Perhaps you should ask again.

Sounds good to me: 0 errors; successfull.

I need to use the settings above in "WS View" app
Then you should try this:

Enable
Protocol: Wunderground
Server: www.pwsweather.com
Path: /pwsupdate/pwsupdate.php?
Station ID: PWSWeather-ID
Station Key: PWSWeather-Key
Port: 80
Interval: 300

or:

Enable
Protocol: Wunderground
Server: pwsupdate.pwsweather.com
Path: /api/v1/submitwx?
Station ID: PWSWeather-ID
Station Key: PWSWeather-Key
Port: 80
Interval: 300

Apparently, the upload interval can now also be >= 60 seconds: https://www.pwsweather.com/frequently-asked-questions#how-often-should-i-post-to-the-pwsweather-servers (search for often).

Hello, it seems that the settings above are absolutely correct and everything works as expected.  [tup]

I contacted PWSweather support and they confirmed that the settings they provided in the first place (with "pwsweather.com" as server) were incorrect.

Thank you for the help!

Just thought I'd post the settings that I've just used (I think slightly different from the above).
This is from an Ecowitt gateway Version: GW1100A_V2.1.7
Enable
Protocol: Wunderground
Server: www.pwsweather.com
Path: /weatherstation/updateweatherstation.php?
Station ID: PWSWeather-ID
Station Key: PWSWeather-Key
Port: 80
Interval: 60

Hope that might help 8-)
