Sainlogic WS and Misol GW1000 compatibility?
« on: May 06, 2022, 06:30:15 AM »
Hello,

I would like to ask if anyone knows:
1. The Sainlogic WS purchased at amazon.de, what frequency do they work at? On the internet I saw mentioned 915 MHz and 433 Mhz. Which one is it?
2. If I get a Sainlogic WS and it does work at 433 Mhz, will it be compatible with the 433Mhz Misol GW1000 and Misol soil moisture sensor?

To give a concrete example:
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Sainlogic-Professional-Internet-Wireless-Wunderground/dp/B07TVMQ2CK
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000639832946.html
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33056433752.html

Will these things work together or not?

My goal is to get a weather station set + wall display (basic data is enough) + gw1000 + soil moisture sensor (only needs to be supported by gw1000) as cheap as possible and there is no affordable pre-made set with all these things included on amazon.de nor froggit.

Thanks!

1) it should be 868MHz ( but I can't say for sure )
2) yes
3) 433MHz soil sensors should have a lower range compared to 868MHz ones
4) ecowitt sells gw1100 and soil sensors in all frequency range ( if you prefer gw1000 you may ask ecowitt support, I think they still manufacture it )

Hi!

I would assume 868MHz for a weather station sold via Amazon.de - but unfortunately I can't say for sure.
You should be careful in any case - not all weather stations sold as "Sainlogic" are from Fine Offset - there are also devices from UCTECH.
The WS3500 is a compatible station from Fine Offset - the FT0300 or the 8-in-1 comes from UCTECH.
Note especially the appearance of the combi-sensor!

In the European Union both frequencies (433 and 868 MHz) are legal. 433 MHz tends to be more prone to interferences and has a lower reach (distance between sensor (array)s - therefore 868 MHz is preferable.
Misol generally only sells devices for the Asian market where the main frequency is 433 MHz (as long as a sensor and the console send/receive on the same frequency, they will work together).

It is true that amazon.de hasn't mentioned the frequency for the WS3500 (or let's say: Sainlogic haven't mentioned that on amazon.de).
I had a call with amazon.de and they sent me me a manual in which the station is described - and there it is 868 MHz (and another model with 915 MHz which is U.S.A. only and interfering with mobile networks in Europe).
The amazon.de offer is with 165 EUR more expensive than the same model (sold as WH3000SE) by froggit (140 EUR), so I'm wondering why you would want to go for the amazon.de offer.

So why don't you buy the WH3000SE from Froggit and the GW1100 + a WH51 (soil moisture) sensor from Ecowitt. GW1100 36 (USD) + WH51 (17 USD) = 53 USD + import tax (probably 20% for Slovenia, it's the VAT in SLO) = 64 USD/60 EUR.
You should order the 868 MHz models then at Ecowitt. Price-wise you will be around 200 EUR (Froggit + Ecowitt).
Froggit only would be 140 + 50 DP1500(GW1000) + 30 DP100(WH51) = 220 EUR. As you can see not a big difference. Ecowitt means waiting for about 2 weeks after purchase, Froggit inside the EU 5-7 days.

Even WS3500 from Amazon (160 EUR) + GW1000 from Misol (27 USD) + WH51 from Misol (17 USD) = 44 USD - again you are around 200 EUR and no real gain. 433 MHz is less reliable than 868 MHz (though legal).

I'd go for the Froggit + Ecowitt option: not only is it the cheapest solution but with Froggit you have a EU based seller for warranty issues - and Ecowitt are very customer friendly with warranty cases. With Misol you might have more difficulties to get hold of them if necessary.
But, after all, your choice  8-)

Hey a big thank you to all you nice people for sharing your knowledge in your replies!

And thanks Gyvate it's like you did all my homework for me. I feel like a spoiled kid now

My reasoning for Sainlogic WS from amazon.de was that:
  • sometimes they have great deals and the price drops in the range of 105 - 115 EUR which is a really great deal
  • amazon.de lets me deduct VAT on Sainlogic WS but for some reason not on Froggit products (EU reverse charge mechanism)

So in theory, if I can wait until the next good deal it is more like Sainlogic WS3500 without VAT for 80-90 EUR vs Froggit WH3000 138 EUR.

On the other hand, buying from Froggit is probably easier, safer and less things can go wrong. It's just that some products are a bit pricey, and the pricing of some items is strange. For example I would love to get dual screens but the pricing makes no sense to me. Only WS is 100 EUR, 1st additional screen is 37,99 EUR more, second additional screen is 102 EUR more

if you want a cheaper 2nd WH2910 console (that's the console which comes with the rebranded Sainlogic WS3500), get it from Ecowitt for 80 USD (= 90 EUR including taxes). And buy the set (WH3000SE)  from Froggit (directly or via amazon.de) for about 140 EUR. When you buy from Ecowitt, you can get yourself the GW1100 too, 40 EUR).

I wouldn't wait for too big sales or promotions as these days due to the COVID-19 based chip crisis and logistic chain issues plus the economic issues caused by the Ukraine crisis, electronic items have become more and more expensive. You can tell from the fact that certain items which need to be re-produced have become in China (Ecowitt - the retail outlet of the manufacturer Fine Offset) more expensive than with the resellers and rebranders (probably because they still have their stock filled from before the crises). And that's highly unusual.

Maybe around Christmas time .... if you can/want to wait that long ....

regarding price policy - Froggit's more than one console offer has always been a sales mystery to me. But bundles (full stations) are usually cheaper than the single parts.

just ran into another good offer
expondo.de / or expondo.it offer so-called second-hand or refurbished items (these are usually items sent back even without being used, just unpacked, but can't legally be sold any more as new).
they offer a Steinberg Systems SBS-WS-600 - that a functional GW1000 (a WH2650 WiFi displayless console) plus the 7-in-1 WH65 outdoor array.
And - they offer the usual Steinberg warranty also for these items - 3 years !!  - 89 EUR
(who cares if e.g. the outdoor sensor has a little scratch - nobody can see it anyway 8-) )
https://www.expondo.de/steinberg-systems-b-ware-wifi-wetterstation-aussensensor-innensensor-20030583
And your WH2910 console you can get from Froggit (100 EUR) or from Ecowitt (90 EUR).
I guess that's the best you can get for quite some time.
By the way - I own and run (also) a SBS-WS-600 - works perfectly.
It has the special charme, that the indoor Temp/Humid/Pressure sensor comes separately from the console, so you can place in a more flexible manner.
Also, you don't have the bulky USB power supply of the GW1x00/DP1500 consoles. But these are convenience features.  ;)

congratulations !
Your console (WH2910 clone) will only be able to display the sensors from the outdoor array.
Your GW1100 console/gateway will be able to receive all available sensors of the same frequency (see matrix https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=40730.0).
So, in case your "appetite" for new sensors increases, they can all be handled by the GW1100 - and, by the way, by using the custom server functionality of the GW1100
you could also re-purpose an old Android tablet as "display only console" using the Personal Weather Tablet app (PWT) https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=39453.msg405634#msg405634
This you can already do now.
