My 4 month old 6153/Wireless Vantage Pro2 with 24-Hour Fan Aspirated Radiation Shield fan now only works during daylight hours (started a couple of months ago). While this is better than only operating at night (since solar heating of the housing unlikely then), it's not quite what I was paying for...
So it seems obvious the battery isn't able to hold a charge to operate the fan between daylight charges (the fan makes a not too loud noise I can hear from a foot or so away, which at first thought a little 'cheap' sounding but now proves useful to see if the $#@! thing is working). When it's on I can also feel with my hand a slight vacuum on the intake area.
The solar panel/battery for the main station seems to be operating/charging/holding charge OK, just the fan system is failing.
I read that Davis email help is often unanswered, so I called ...
After waiting (out of principle/experiment!?) for 1 hour 20 minutes on Davis's 'help' line I finally got a rather confused person (sounded like she was making it up as she went along, or maybe had no training nor idea, or otherwise clueless).
After a brief explanation as above and she asked if I had the receipt ("well of course I do, via email, but we're on the phone at the moment!"), then asking for the code on the back of the wall unit, then my address, email, and phone -- and saying several times 'that shouldn't happen (me: "of course, that's why I'm calling!"). She then said 'hold on a minute' and was gone (not very professional), and me waiting on a silent line another 10 or 15 minutes not knowing if she was coming back, she started talking again & said 'I have to go to a meeting now so I'll call you back'; me: "when?"; she: 'in about a half hour'.
She nor anybody else had called, emailed, or written back now a month later....
Besides the ranting about the rudeness, unprofessionalism, and waster 90 minutes or so of my life by davis, anybody have a similar fan problem?
Any idea how to get through to them without another 90 minute gamble on another clueless stoner like the first time?
Theoretically it'd be 'cheaper' (valuing my time as money) to just try and fix it myself if it's a bad battery or current-sinking fan problem, but for $1000+ and 4 months' use you'd think the manufacturer could take some responsibility!
