Watson 8686 indoor sensor not working
« on: June 19, 2021, 06:48:08 AM »
I have a newish Watson WS 8686 which has lost the connection to the indoor sensor.  I've turned it off and on again, removed the batteries but nothing.  There is no option to select a channel.  Any other ideas?  I've tried to attach some photos.
Thank you
I can't attach any photos either!  Grrr!!

Try new batteries
Power cycle display console
Move it closer to display console
Wait 1 minute for it to show up as it only transmits every 60 seconds

Channel dip switches are not used in the main indoor sensor with temp/hum/barometer. Only the optional temp/hum sensors have dip switches.

Thank you - I've done all of them apart from power cycle the display console. How do I do this?  I've reset it but to power cycled.

You don't need to reset the display console. To power cycle something means to remove power plug (and/or batteries if applicable) for 10 or 30 seconds and then plug the power back in.

Do you have a re-register indoor transmitter option?Give it a try..it can take up to a minute before you see the readings come back.

No, sadly no option to re register the transmitter.  I've also power cycled the console with no joy.
It's very strange.
Thank you everyone.

..not giving up yet!

I did  a search for your weather station and it sure looks like an Ambient WS-2000 or the Ecowitt HP2500.

In the settings screens ( the gear icon) there should be a Factory screen where it has the re-register indoor transmitter option.

Might be worth a second look.

Yes!! That's it.  Solved.  I just tried it now and it worked straight away.  I now have an indoor temperature reading.
Thank you for persevering.

Previously you mentioned that you performed a Factory Reset. That should have also done the Re-registration on the Indoor sensor. The fact that the initial Factory Reset didn't correct the problem indicates to me that you may not be running the latest firmware. And do keep in mind that there are two different firmware that need to be performed, each with their own method. Update the WiFi Firmware with the WS View mobile app and then don't forget to also do the download firmware upgrade with the microSD card. You can download the firmware file from Ecowitt.com ...the one for the HP2551 is what you need (yes it works...same system). So be sure to do both the WiFi Firmware upgrade (WS View app) and the Revision Firmware upgrade (microSD card file download).

For the initial problem I would never have suggested a Factory Reset. But you mentioned that you had already done so. What is done is done.

There is a clear explanation for your initial problem. If you removed or replaced batteries in the indoor sensor then this sensor will randomly assign itself a new ID number every time the batteries are removed and reinserted. The display console needs to re-register and search for the newly assigned ID.

Glad to hear you got it fixed.

Galfert is quite correct, replacing batteries in the remote T/H/P (WH32B) and older firmware for the console and WiFi likely triggered the same issue for me. Sometimes power outages to the console needed a re-register to the indoor sensor as well..
