Topic: Windows software to configure GW1000, HP3500, WH2650 and other Ecowitt stations

Hi!

Because I keep reading the request from members to configure a GW1000 (or other stations) even without a smartphone and without the WS View app ...
There is apparently a Windows software for configuring the devices - without a smartphone or WS View!

The WS Connect Router software apparently makes this possible - in any case, the corresponding setting options are available.
However, this software seems to be intended only for the initial start-up - a subsequent change of the parameters is obviously not intended.

It is available on the Manual & Software page for the HP3501 weather station.

It is a bit strange that the HP2551C is not available for selection. Because at least the configuration of the weather services could also be implemented via it.
Maybe it will work if you choose a different type of console.

Has anyone already had experience with this program?

The necessary changes to the program to specify an IP address and not only to be helpful for the initial start-up seem to me to be minor.
Maybe we should approach Ecowitt on this?

Apart from the fact that the WS_Connect_Router Setup(0412).rar file behind your link turns out to corrupted, damaged or so (see my PM),
it's for me not so astonishing that the HP2551 is not offered in that program - it not offered in the WSView app for "configure new device" either.
Only once you have connected your HP2551 console to the local LAN, it will appear in the device list of the WSView app.

The WSView app obviously scans the local LAN for devices who operate the WiFi firmware, and then lists them in the device list.
The GW1000/WH2650 do not have a separate WiFi firmware as some of the consoles do.
Therefore, when you choose a GW1000/WH2650 from the device list, the whole configuration comes up and not only the WiFi portion (weather servers).

The file is nor corrupted or broken. Even if I don't like RAR as a file format - I was able to unrar it as normal. So no problem here.

The HP2551C is probably not displayed there because it does not have a special pairing mode that can be initiated by pressing a button. At least I can't remember such a button on my HP2551C (but for the WH2910 this is a combination of Wind&Pressure - so perhaps there's also such a key for the HP2551C).

In the WS View app, I had always wondered why there was no HP2551C in the initial setup menu. I would simply offer a dummy picture of it and, when selected, simply start the UDP broadcast search and display all devices found.
This saves initial frustration (my station is not supported at all!) and corresponding inquiries.
We know it is useless. But a newcomer is initially insecure.

BTW:
The setup menu in the WS Connect Router program seems to be identical for all selected stations - so the WIFI configuration is also offered for the WH2910. It is conceivable that the commands for setting the WIFI configuration are not supported by the HP2551C but I have not checked that yet.

It only works the first time you connect a new device - or make a (factory) reset with the device.
There's no way to choose a device which is already registered and add or change weather network/server connections.

As mentioned before, if you want to use it to (re-)configure, add a weather network connection or add/change a custom server connection,
you have to make a (factory) reset with the device (console).

This program existed before in a very basic version, without the possibility to also configure weather networks.
It obviously has been extended.

I had downloaded it several times with several browsers and WinRAR came up with the error message(s) and Win10 didn't recognize it as an archive (what it usually does for zip and rar files if the y are proper archives).
If WinRAR consideres a rar-archive as corrupted, incomplete .... then it probably is.
But maybe it's just the wrong day for me ... and the little green archive eater goblin  was active and hi-jacked the China-Germany internet connection.

I'd say you didn't get the right file, but the left file ...
On the download page of the HP3501 there are two links for PC software
1) the WS Connect Router software - that's the one this thread is about
2) the EasyWeather2 software - the interface between PC and HP3501 console - and that's what you have behind your links (or link, because link #1 is already empty)
With EasyWeather2 you can monitor the actual console values, read the SD card values etc. - but you can't configure the console/router connection (pairing) nor the Weather Network posting
