WS80 or WS68 for snowy conditions?
« on: October 07, 2021, 10:19:23 AM »
Seen postings by several members (Gyvate, solartempest, wardie, ...)  of WS80 covered in snow while looking information on the unit, as it seems quite interesting...
But of course while top is covered in snow the sensors on top are not giving much usefull information and the heater offsets the outside temp measurement slightly.

So considering that the anemometer would not have ideal placement conditions by far (to much high trees and a house)  -- would a WS 68 with wind speed cups and wind wane be be better than the WS80 Ultrasonic system, or?
(I currently have an ols HeavyWether weather station with wind speed cups and wane and it do give me readings on local conditions)

Looking for recommendations from users with experience in snowy conditions...

Tough call, I have had my cups freeze in place with freezing rain and other conditions. I don't have a WS80, nor do I get a lot of snow which would effect either in my estimation.

The solar sensor of a WS68 can also be covered by snow - maybe not as easily as with a WS80.
And I'm not using the WS80 temperature readings. So the little temp fluctuations when the heater is on do not matter to me.  I have a separate WH32(-EP) outdoor temperature sensor in a more appropriate place for outdoor temperature readings. The WS80 is positioned for optimal wind readings.
