Solar outdoor weather station question

I get no sun in the dead of winter,so will solar work for a wireless weather station?

Are you at the North Pole?

Would not work unless the solar power system provided high enough battery capacity to make it through the dark periods.

Davis solar-powered stations work fine through the winter in the British Isles. If it's a very low light location because of shade from buildings, trees etc then it's probably not a good location for weather station sensors anyway. But if you're talking about typical British/Irish low light in midwinter because of cloud then it's not an issue. The backup battery will take over and all that will happen is that the transmitter battery will need replacing more often. but it should still last at least 6 months even in minimal light conditions.
