unable to link W8686 to Weathercloud
« on: May 30, 2020, 08:40:00 AM »
Hi All,
Just setting up my Watson W8686 clone of HP2550 to the weather services they provide

Managed to get it to work immediately with ecowitt.net , and thats perfect , so then tried the other serives the setup supports

Weathercloud
Wunderground
WOW

No luck - i'll post in the other forum for Wunderground

Weathercloud

Setup account , setup device , used the
FineOffset HP device model selection
BUT not sure what to use as the link
received the ID & Key
Entered tjose into the server settings on the consule

But no data sending to the Weathercloud site

Device is named
 E-Witt-W8686-ETAF

if anyone has ideas,
I played with the WS Tool IOS app, and it sees the device and go through the process for registering to the service

Missing probably a simple step

I think i see the issue , the KEY is 1 character longer than the consule will allow !!!!
so no idea how to get out of that issue now

If you are having trouble uploading to various services, then this is more a station issue than an issue with the online service. This belongs in Fine Offset clones board.

Some basic tips.

- do update your hardware firmware. The HP2551-C display console has two types of firmware. They are Revision firmware and WiFi firmware. Have you done both?

- I recommend using a computer to first register for accounts with each service. Once you have account with station ID and password then use WS View to connect to service. Be sure to hit save at the bottom of each screen in WS View before clicking Next or Finish.

- give it a bit of time. Sometimes data doesn't show up right away. Sometimes all that is required is 30 minutes. Other times a few hours.

Thanks,
I did register on a PC first for all the sites and then entered the info onto the server section in consule

Yes its probably firmware not accepting the last ID character , i guess i may upgrade the firmware at some point - not sure how, looks like a need an SD card , so i dont want to brick the device

As this has been moved , i wont start a thread for The Wunderground site - that just sees the device as offline
again probably a setting somewhere
will check back later today

WOW site is down so can set that up - get an error when i log in from a pc

But the ecowitt.net site works very well, uploads all every 5mins , and exports history direct to excel,

displayed as gauges , or i can get a list or graph view

i may just settle for that

How long is you WeatherCloud key? Mine is 32 characters.

Yes you need a microSD card of SDHC type. No larger than 32 GB but 8 GB is more than you'll ever need. There is no need to fear bricking. Just don't flash firmware when there is an electrical storm occurring. Want more piece of mind? Then use a UPS.

Thanks so much, you know i checked that as i entered , before hitting the OK
and again when it would not accept the lst character
found the issue was i entered a number twice !!!!!
thanks so much for taking the time to look
i should have a microSD somewhere, but i may just get one anyway
