Title: getting my fist pws

so i was originally looking at the ambient ws-2000
then i found this site
i am now looking at the ecowitt 2553

must haves: wind, rain, temp, humidity, web access,rain totals over various times, lightning detection

any other models i should look at?
thoughts on these 2?

Ecowitt is barred from selling the ultrasonic anemometer in the US. This is due to Ambient agreement with Fine Offset as having US exclusivity. Any other Ecowitt model and parts are not a problem for US sales. Your options are...

- Get the Ambient WS-5000

- Get the Ecowitt HP2551 console and all other sensors you want from Ecowitt. Then add the Ambient ultrasonic anemometer separately.

- or forget the a ultrasonic altogether and just get the Ecowitt GW1002 and add the HP2551-C display console.

if i ditch the thought of ultrasonic, any reason not to go back to my original thought of the ws2000?

There are many reasons to choose or not choose any particular model. I recommend becoming familiar with several models to understand what they all have to offer.

Just some initial thoughts but realise that there is much more....

WS-2000 is okay, if you don't mind the limitations of all-in-one design.

WS-5000 is not all-in-one but the location of the temperature and humidity is not optimal.

GW1002 has separate components.
