How to Connect your WU station to SmartThings

The purpose of this is to show how you can easily integrate your own weather station live data into SmartThings for home automation. If you don't have a weather station you can either use a default station in your area or you can specify a neighbor's station. Best of all though for station owners is that you'll be able to integrate your own station if your station uploads to WU.

Steps to connect SmartThings to WU:
Requirement - You must have already configured your SmartThings hub on your account
  • Log in to SmartThings Groovy IDE: https://account.smartthings.com with your Samsung Account.
  • Click on My Devices from the top menu
  • Click on +New Device button on the top right corner
  • Fill out the following fields:
Name: Weather Station (or anything you want)
Label: Weather Station (or anything you want)
Device Network Id: Weather-Station (no spaces*)
          Type: SmartWeather Station Tile
          Version: Published
Location: Home (or whatever your hub location name is)
Hub: SmartThings Hub (or whatever your hub is called)
  • Click Create button
  • You should now be looking at the newly created device but you’ll need to edit some settings to be sure to get your personal weather station and not just any other in your area.
  • Click on Preferences (edit)
  • Enter in your zip code and your WU Station ID (upper case)
  • Click Save

You should now see your Weather Station data in SmartThings. You will now be able to create automations and triggers by using your station and look at the data and history in the mobile app…etc.

* the Device Network Id seems to allow spaces but no other device I have has spaces...so I recommend not putting in spaces.

This only represents one of many ways to connect your weather data to SmartThings and to other home automation systems.

Hi
Cannot put anything on "Location", "Hub" or "Group" so "create" is not possible.
Cheers

Do you own a SmartThings hub?

Thanks Galfert, I set it up just now. I have to work with to see how I might use it.

I wonder if it will automatically update in Google Home??
