While active duty AF, I was escorting some contractors in a restricted area. It was late spring in Arkansas, about 3PM. . There were some storms off in the distance, but nothing close to worry about. Or so we thought. Me, and the other guy I was with were about 15 feet from a munitions building watching these contractors install some lights for the area. A bolt came down, hit the lightning suppression on the building where we were standing and dissipated into the ground. Just like it was meant to do. Unfortunately, that dissipation then hit our feet. Felt like a sledgehammer hit the bottom of our feet. Knocked both of us about 6 feet in the air. Decided right then the contractors were done for the day and we all went back inside.
