Davis Instruments Weather Stations / Re: Replacing FARS Fan with Case Fan

Yet another Davis fan has quit and they are now over $100 including shipping.
LOL! You gotta be kidding me?! Tell me everything is fine.  Must be sold at the grocery store.  Unbelievable.

Here's what I use. Overkill, but works in my climate just fine. i'd shoot for the 25-45 CFM range. Don't go lees than stock.

I highly recommend Cooler Guys. Any 80mm fan will pretty much work with very minor modification to the fan housing.

Is there a difference in the old sensors, and the new sensors?  I believe I saw something about a humidity correcting needing to be applied.  My replacement sensor should be here in a week or so.

.... Is this a clean the connection first step, then call Davis? Seems kind odd for the humidity sensor to crap out this quickly.

Yes it is odd for a new station but like all things there is a failure rate, nothing is 100% perfect and humidity sensors do have issues in bad environments. If it's a moisture/humidity/temperature issue then this might become evident observing when the issue occurs over a time frame.

But yeah clean/check the ISS socket & fully re-seat cable jack a few times and check for any signs of moisture. Don't worry if there is some form of dielectric grease on the contacts, that can be normal.

Davis Instruments Weather Stations / Replacing FARS Fan with Case Fan

Is there a guide somewhere that I am missing to swap out my Davis FARS fan with a computer case fan (VP2+ w/ 24 hour FARS)?

Yet another Davis fan has quit and they are now over $100 including shipping.  I was going to try to replace just the motor, but Jameco now has a 1,000 unit miminum order.  Amazon is out of stock of the fan that is just like the Jameco and I'm not sure which other fans are OK to use.

Anyway, I can get a 12v wall wort and run a line from a nearby outlet to my ISS, so was thinking the case fan may be the best option.

Thanks

I’ve gotta do the same thing here. Mine reads fine until the humidity rises like during rain then it reads a big fat 0. I’ve tried removing and re-soldering the sensor. If I could find that older variation sensor the fix would quick and simple.

I just ordered a replacement temp/humidity sensor for my 10 year old station...  I will be changing out the old one once it arrives.  I will post if there are issues.
