Title: Ambient Weather Station Beta Testers needed :)
Post by: SnowSentry on July 17, 2021, 04:54:42 AM
Hey Guys!

Any Ambient weather station owners willing to help me out!

I have published a free services for virtual weather stations and would like to get this working for Ambient Weather Stations but I don't have one to test with.

If you have one and are willing to help me out that would be great. Just head over to https://www.weatherwizz.com and setup a new account then navigate to {Setup Ambient Weather Station BETA TESTERS} where I have left the instructions.

Thanks a million :)

Does it need to be an Ambient console, or will it also work for other FineOffset clone consoles ? Which consoles does your solution support ? What interface is needed given CumulusMX and Meteobridge work with your solution ?
Is it a direct console to application communication or do you need another software mediator like CumulusMX, Meteobridge, (weewx ?) ?

I guess what you call a virtual console it what others call template, skin, web page(s), web UI etc. (like the examples you find under the web link in my signature) - just to make the wording clear.

Hi!

I still await the verification link - but the corresponding mail does not seem to arrive here.
Maybe the automatic registration is not working correctly?

Thank Oliver,

Just checked the email was sent but looks like your server is delaying it. Got this response.

Email was deferred due to the following reason(s): [IPs were throttled by recipient server]

it's still trying to send the mail.

Hey Gyvate,

I am happy to implement as many consoles/software as possible, there are just so many and almost all of them do things differently.

The solution supports HTTP post method, which is why CumulusMX and Meteobridge work well because they both have the ability to push their data to a 3rd party server. So basically if the console can post/push http data then I can support it, I just need to know what the parameters are so I know what data I am expecting to receive from the device.

Thanks for the tips on the various ways people describe these things.

My main purpose for building this is because I have a Davis console which is great when I am in that room, but I wanted to be able to have multiple consoles all running and showing me the same data so that no matter where I was I could see my weather data, especially during storms where I didn't want to be running back and forth to the Davis console to check how much rain I was getting. So I designed virtual consoles to display real time data updated every 5 seconds.

Does the FineOffset console support uploading to 3rd party via http or some other method?

Here is a few screen shots of WeatherWizz, this is why I call it a console. Because it's not designed for collecting data or showing graphs it's designed to be readable at 10 feet away so I can glance at it and see what the outdoor temp is or how much rain I have had.

The newer FineOffset consoles support an http upload to a so-called customized server, i.e. you can enter the IP address/URL of the server and (if needed) a path.
They will upload in the so-called Ecowitt protocol by which they also upload to Ecowitt.net.
The Ecowitt protocol supports all extra sensors of Ecowitt (extraTemp, PM2.5, PM10, CO2, lightning, soil Moisture etc.) whereas the also supported WU protocol only provides basic sensors.
Meteobridge, CumulusMX and weewx can also provide these sensor data.
@olicat will be a good contact to provide you with the interface description for the http upload.
@wvdkuil too - and probably many others.

Great Stuff Gyvate,

Thanks for the info, sounds like FineOffset

should be simple to support if I can find the http parameters :)

Adding to what Gyvate stated. The newer Ambient consoles also have a custom server option although rather than sending out in Ecowitt protocol they have their own or you can select the WU protocol (As you also can with the other Fineoffset consoles).

This is a sample of my Ambient console output using the Ambient protocol, it is a "get" , not a "post"

"/data/report/stationtype=AMBWeatherV4.2.9&PASSKEY=XXXXXXXXXXX&dateutc=2021-07-17+11:58:45&tempinf=71.4&battin=1&humidityin=56&baromrelin=30.127&baromabsin=30.127&tempf=80.2&battout=1&humidity=81&winddir=238&winddir_avg10m=221&windspeedmph=1.1&windspdmph_avg10m=1.3&windgustmph=2.2&maxdailygust=5.8&hourlyrainin=0.000&eventrainin=0.000&dailyrainin=0.000&weeklyrainin=0.043&monthlyrainin=1.909&yearlyrainin=22.858&solarradiation=41.59&uv=0&temp1f=63.7&humidity1=75&temp2f=77.0&humidity2=43&temp7f=-8.3&temp8f=-2.6&batt1=1&batt2=1&batt7=1&batt8=1&pm25=15.0&pm25_24h=15.2&batt_25=1&pm25_in=13.0&pm25_in_24h=10.3&batt_25in=1&batt_co2=1"

Others on here have a more complete sensor map as obviously I don't have every Ambient sensor.

wow, thanks for that Rover1822.

I support http get also, so I should be able to simply modify this to work at my end. Great stuff, so I don't need to poll Ambient for the data, I can just get the console to http directly to me.

Thanks, I will get to work :)

Correct :)

Some of us are already doing this. I'm doing do it, but my structure is not generic as I meant it only for myself, and my uses.

Don't suppose you have a list of output variables that you are using to populate your http get request?

Don't suppose you have a list of output variables that you are using to populate your http get request?

The request is populated directly by the console , you do not populate it, and it is not configurable. It sends out what it has. The only thing you configure is the destination server location, the port, directory, and the interval you want it sent (note on interval there is no point in telling it to run more frequent than the update frequency of the console itself, I just use 1 minute).
You just listen for the request (on a webserver, your own HTTP listener, whatever... and parse accordingly)

If you are asking how to configure, I use the WSView Android app.

I created an account and copied the API string into the CumulusMX setting for custom http - but it shows a strange (rather None) pressure value.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Any advice ?

By the way - the Meteobridge string works (in MB) - it shows the (absolute ?) air pressure +/- properly - the relative pressure is also NaN.
It shows properly on other web site templates.
And it shows / switches between two different values for monthly and yearly rainfall (i.e. e.g. m/y 102.0/725.1 mm and m/y 104.7/737.8 mm , where the latter is correct).
Same thing with the other sensor values - switches between 2 sets of values every renewal.
I basically get two sets of the dashboard displayed which switch in the refreshing interval where only one of them shows the correct sensor values.
The MB string looks OK though at first glance.

In this post (https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=40837.msg429145#msg429145) you can find a list of parameters passed by gw1000/wh2650 ( don't know how accurate is )

Hi Gyvate,

The first problem is you have setup Meteobridge and Cumulus to both update the same station id. Looks like you have CumulusMX on the API and Meteobridge on Meteobridge api. So every few seconds one is overwriting the other. Hence the flashing.

The reason NaN is appearing is most likely due to your Cumulus setup as it appears your sending decimals with a comma rather than a point. eg I am receiving 18,2 but expecting 18.2

You can use Meteobridge and Cumulus at the same time, you just need to create a new virtual console so that you get another station id.

I have an Ambient system that I can send directly to you, you can pull it with an API key and I can send it to you via Ecowit GW1000. Three wonderful ways. Let me know how to setup the Ecowit/Ambient to you if you want. I’ll do the API key to get started. I have several sensors.

Thanks kheller2, that would be great. I am working on the Ambient API pull first and then I will put in the direct push.

To help me test all you need to do is login and put your Ambient API key into the Beta Testing area. Thanks a million :)

You can use Meteobridge and Cumulus at the same time, you just need to create a new virtual console so that you get another station id.
1. Cumulus was de-activated - but seemed still to behave nastily and kept on sending even though the "enabled" box was untagged and saved - that is probably a CumulusMX problem (it still remembered the old entry even though deactivated)

2. I'd say your setup should be able to handle different locales - i.e. most of Europe (except the English speaking, UK, IRL) use a "," instead of/as a decimal point - already COBOL 50 years ago knew a clause which said "DECIMAL POINT IS COMMA"
Some more fine tuning needed. :-) - btw - the CumulusMX web interface can handle different locales 8-)

3. it's obvious that a 2nd station is needed for two different feeds - but that wasn't the plan
(neither to have 2 stations nor having two feeds to one station)

4. Only Ambient users (who are not the majority of FO clone users) have an Ambient API key (which costs a license fee) - Ecowitt/FineOffset clone console users usually don't have that and are using the free-of-charge Ecowitt.net site.

It looks as if your approach were pulling data from a web site (ambientweather.net) rather than having the console posting to your server. At the moment, with the limited number of sensor values displayed, the WU protocol would be sufficient which every newer FineOffset (clone) console can post to a custom server. An Ambient (FO clone) console has this functionality too.

For a future (?) extension to more sensors, the Ecowitt protocol via custom server, as mentioned earlier, would be the right choice.
For pulling data from the Ecowitt web site, the API is announced to be published soon.
There are respective threads here in the forum.

5. (question) - can this "virtual console" be run locally without an internet connection and accessing your server ?

Once you have a processing for the Ecowitt protocol via custom server in place (best info source @olicat), I am ready to post from my GW1000/WH2650 console - just need the link

Hi Gyvate,

Thanks for your feedback.

The http get for Ambient / FO clones is ready for testing and you can find it in the area named.

"Setup Ambient Weather Station Custom Server Option {BETA TESTERS}"

Just remember to disable meteobridge temporality or we will have the console values flicking again.

I will make some changes to support the comma decimals.

The Virtual Console cannot be run locally. I designed this system to make it as easy as possible for everyone to use without needing to setup servers at home or having in-depth knowledge of technical things or having to worry about maintenance. So unfortunately, it needs an internet connection.

A note on Ecowitt / Ambient protocols, if I remember correctly there are differences on keyword to value mapping.

If anyone here has the most complete information on them, it would be Olicat

Ambient and non-Ambient FO clone consoles send with different protocols - AW with Ambient protocol, the others (e.g. Ecowitt) with the Ecowitt protocol - and they are pretty different.
Are you sure that your AW link (beta testers) will work when an Ecowitt console posts ?
If they all post to the same station you have mentioned in the instructions, you will receive a big mess, won't you ?
Using my (2nd) station account for this, doesn't produce anything (but this might be due to your internal setup)

And as input for upload interval the WSView app allows only 16-600 seconds (unless you use some tricks like FOSHKplugin) - so you should replace 15 by 16. 8-)

For FO clones (Ecowitt protocol) you'll probably need a different directory e.g. /ew/
your instructions work for AW only - even though you say Ambient / FO clones ...

Hi Gyvate,

Thanks for the feedback, I am still trying to get my head around all these clones of each other. You make a good point on the path for the different models, so I have changed the guide to /am/ /ew/ /fo/ for the respective types.

What is the station number of your second account and I will check what is going on?

Thanks for your help :)

station: see picture above ;)
I assume that behind /ew/ or /fo/ the string is the same as for the /aw/
By the way - there shouldn't be a difference between ew and fo as they both use the Ecowitt protocol.
Beyond the basic data for indoor temp/hum/air pressure (abs + rel), outdoor temp/hum, rain, wind (avg, gust, dir), solar radiation and UV, there will be 7 extraTemp, 5 soilMoisture, 2 PM2.5 (WH41), 1 lightning (WH57), 1 extra indoor temp/hum, 1 extra PM2.5, 1 extra PM10, 1 extra CO2 - so a lot of sensors to experiment with

/ew/update?stationid=KKNHVXWQUB&auth=xxxxx&
resp.
/fo/update?stationid=KKNHVXWQUB&auth=xxxxx&
But with neither path (ew, fo) the dashboard shows any reaction - just claims no data sent
(but the console sends and keeps on sending - right now with the /ew/... path)
Title: Re: Ambient Weather Station Beta Testers needed :)
Post by: SnowSentry on July 18, 2021, 07:17:16 PM
Hi Gyvate,

Maybe modify your post and remove the auth key :)

You are correct, there is no difference at the backend between ew and fo. if they both use the same protocol then the path does not matter.

The dashboard will not react yet, I am just testing the end point. is it sending data now?

the string will start with PASSKEY=0886FAFEB37ED502FB0A34E05408C4C7 (something like this) and then sensor names, value length and values, e.g.
a:72:{s:11:"stationtype";s:14:"GW1000A_V1.6.8";s:7:"dateutc";s:19:"2021-07-18 23:38:19";s:7:"tempinf";s:4:"77.5";s:10:"humidityin";s:2:"54";s:10:"baromrelin";s:6:"30.171";s:10:"baromabsin";s:6:"29.137";s:5:"tempf";s:4:"64.6";s:8:"humidity";s:2:"83";s:7:"winddir";s:2:"90";s:12:"windspeedmph";s:4:"0.00";s:11:"windgustmph";s:4:"0.00";s:12:"maxdailygust";s:4:"1.34";s:14:"solarradiation";s:4:"0.00";s:2:"uv";s:1:"0";s:10:"rainratein";s:5:"0.000";s:11:"eventrainin";s:5:"0.000";s:12:"hourlyrainin";s:5:"0.000";s:11:"dailyrainin";s:5:"0.000";s:12:"weeklyrainin";s:5:"0.000";s:13:"monthlyrainin";s:5:"4.118";s:12:"yearlyrainin";s:6:"29.055";s:11:"totalrainin";s:6:"29.055";s:6:"temp1f";s:5:"66.56";s:9:"humidity1";s:2:"73";s:6:"temp2f";s:5:"71.60";s:9:"humidity2";s:2:"76";s:6:"temp3f";s:5:"69.44";s:9:"humidity3";s:2:"72";s:6:"temp4f";s:5:"69.80";s:9:"humidity4";s:2:"70";s:6:"temp5f";s:4:"0.50";s:6:"temp6f";s:5:"69.62";s:9:"humidity6";s:2:"81";s:6:"temp7f";s:5:"46.58";s:9:"humidity7";s:2:"51";s:13:"soilmoisture1";s:2:"65";s:13:"soilmoisture4";s:2:"63";s:13:"soilmoisture5";s:2:"54";s:8:"pm25_ch1";s:4:"10.0";s:16:"pm25_avg_24h_ch1";s:3:"8.2";s:8:"pm25_ch2";s:4:"12.0";s:16:"pm25_avg_24h_ch2";s:4:"10.0";s:6:"tf_co2";s:4:"76.6";s:8:"humi_co2";s:2:"58";s:8:"pm25_co2";s:3:"5.8";s:12:"pm25_24h_co2";s:3:"3.5";s:8:"pm10_co2";s:3:"6.2";s:12:"pm10_24h_co2";s:3:"3.9";s:3:"co2";s:3:"360";s:7:"co2_24h";s:3:"532";s:14:"lightning_time";s:10:"1626120512";s:13:"lightning_num";s:1:"0";s:9:"lightning";s:2:"27";s:8:"wh65batt";s:1:"0";s:8:"wh80batt";s:4:"3.06";s:8:"wh26batt";s:1:"0";s:5:"batt1";s:1:"0";s:5:"batt2";s:1:"0";s:5:"batt3";s:1:"0";s:5:"batt4";s:1:"0";s:5:"batt5";s:1:"0";s:5:"batt6";s:1:"0";s:5:"batt7";s:1:"0";s:9:"soilbatt1";s:3:"1.5";s:9:"soilbatt4";s:3:"1.5";s:9:"soilbatt5";s:3:"1.3";s:9:"pm25batt1";s:1:"4";s:9:"pm25batt2";s:1:"4";s:8:"wh57batt";s:1:"4";s:8:"co2_batt";s:1:"6";s:4:"freq";s:4:"868M";s:5:"model";s:10:"GW1000_Pro";}

I guess "a" is the number of string values, here 72, "s:x" is the string length of the sensor name then the sensor name, then the string length of the sensor value and the sensor value. 4 strings per sensor. it ends with the frequency of the console and the console model.

the string may be longer than 500 characters - so you should change your limit for the message not to get discarded
The above string including the PASSKEY is 1976 characters long.

tempinf = temperature indoor in °F, baromrelin = rel pressure/sea pressure in inches, soilbatt1 is the battery status of the soilmoisture sensor1, batt1 = battery status of the extraTemp/Hum sensor1 (WH31) etc.

I have change the update url to support dynamic html parameters because I think they auth keys I put in the path may be causing the issue.

Would you be able to update you settings and try again when you have a moment?

Thanks :)

The devices can also send the data via port 443. However, this is always (!) unencrypted.
These devices cannot use SSL.
On the server side, unencrypted connections must also be possible.

@SnowSentry

I signed in to weatherwizz, selected ecowitt beta tester.
The proposed configuration ( for WsView ) can't work.

I refer to 'path' setting ( in my case: /ew/update?stationid=XXX&auth=YYY& )

As the gw1000/wh2650 will append a 'index.php' ( not sure it will append index.php or simply call the 'default page' in the directory, but in other posts has been reported it calls index.php ) to path and will append the parameters, this will end up in a malformed url ( or at least parameters are not as one may expect ).

So you can't pass your authentication parameters ( but you still have the PASSKEY parameter that identify the weather station ).

So in short if you configure ( in VsWiew ):
path: /ew/

you'll end up in a call like this:
Code: [Select]
www.weatherwizz.com/ew/index.php&?PASSKEY=ZZZZ&stationtype=WH2650A_V1.6.3&dateutc=2021-01-21T14:42:08Z&tempinf=70.7&humidityin=55&baromrelin=29.873&baromabsin=29.811&tempf=44.4&humidity=91&winddir=302&windspeedmph=2.68&windgustmph=5.82&maxdailygust=8.05&solarradiation=23.36&uv=0&rainratein=0.000&eventrainin=0.000&hourlyrainin=0.000&dailyrainin=0.000&weeklyrainin=0.059&monthlyrainin=0.650&yearlyrainin=0.650&totalrainin=0.650&wh65batt=0&wh25batt=0&freq=868M&model=WH2650&windchillc=-17.780000000000001136868377216160297393798828125&tempc=6.88999999999999968025576890795491635799407958984375&temp1c=-17.780000000000001136868377216160297393798828125&temp2c=-17.780000000000001136868377216160297393798828125&tempinc=21.5&dewptc=-17.780000000000001136868377216160297393798828125&windgustkmh=9.3699999999999992184029906638897955417633056640625&windspeedkmh=4.30999999999999960920149533194489777088165283203125&windspeedms=1.1999999999999999555910790149937383830547332763671875&rainmm=0&dailyrainmm=0&weeklyrainmm=1.5&monthlyrainmm=16.510000000000001563194018672220408916473388671875&yearlyrainmm=16.510000000000001563194018672220408916473388671875&rainratemm=0&baromabshpa=1009.3999999999999772626324556767940521240234375&baromrelhpa=1011.5I'm totally wrong: 'ecowitt format' send parameters via POST ( the above example is totally wrong )

to make that clear - the number of parameters and which parameters will be in the sent string will depend on the number and type of sensors connected to the Ecowitt console
what @davidea sent is his special case for his WH2650 console - mine sends many more - the ones which you see in my post (there you can ignore the a:# and s:stringlength entries).
For parsing you will have to take the sensor identifiers and the value after the = sign until the & sign in @davidea's http call example

Thanks davidefa,

I have modified the endpoint to allow for dynamic html parameters in the path. So every user will have a unique path to post to, this resolves the passkey confusion and I can still identify the console posting the data. I have also taken care of any device that attempts to append xxx.php at the end. The server will accept any page name the device attempts to append.

So the generated url path has changed along with the port number

I have changed the port to be insecure the updated info is in the setup guide :)

This will not update the dashboard yet, but hopefully I should start to see some data coming in.

Thanks for your help :)

Your station is pushing in the data as an http post. Your virtual console is now updating. Thanks for all your help.

I hope you find the virtual consoles useful :)

I'm totally wrong ( I'm really getting old ) in what I said in my previous post: parameters in the ecowitt format are 'posted' ( as you have already found ) and not passed as GET parameters ( as in my wrong example )

It still needs some fine tuning I'd say.
The VD shows °F values where it should show °C values, inch values where it should show hPa values, some values are still missing (assuming the dashboard should look the same as my other one fed by Meteobridge) - but it's showing something ...

Hi Gyvate,

You can use the options in your account to change the labels :)

I'll take a look at the data and map any missing values. Also, just a note that not all themes have the same amount of information on them. I am still learning about the Amient/Ecowitt and FO as they seems to have a lot more data so I may create some specific dashboards for those.

Hi Gyvate,

You can use the options in your account to change the labels :) - fixed !

another question: from what I can see you can have only one dashboard, station per account => you need different email addresses if you want to have more than one station.
Or is there a way to have 1 -3 stations per account ?

Hi Gyvate,

That is correct one virtual console per account. Multiple virtual consoles per account may be something I can look at later :)

I just signed up to check it out and I like it.

I started out using the Ambient API key. But then I switched it to custom server and it no longer updates. I followed the instructions to a 't'. I even check my console to make sure the settings were proper.

Is there another port I should try? Also I did delete the API key from the settings, just to be clear.

Great, Happy to hear you like it.

I have made a minor change to the setup guide Ambient custom server. try updating your settings now.

Thanks

Is there another port I should try? Also I did delete the API key from the settings, just to be clear.

The question mark made the difference. It is updating now. Thanks!

I have made a minor change to the setup guide Ambient custom server. try updating your settings now.

one more hint:
I suggest that you increase the CumulusMX string by solar radiation - your string doesn't contain that
Just add "&sr=<#SolRad>" at the end of your string. (case sensitivity :!:)
Had to figure that out and kept on wondering why no solar radiation was showing - after adding that to the string it shows/ed.

Dew point and Wind Chill don't seem to show because these are calculated values not directly provided by the console in the post.

Looking forward to your extended dashboard for Ecowitt extra sensors

I notice that when I switched over to custom server, I lost my dew point. And the outdoor min and max isn't populating.

I assume wind chill isn't populating because there is none in the summer?

I think it's a calculated value and it's not provided as a "ready-made" value by the console.
Look up the strings that the console sends earlier in this thread - no dew point, no wind chill ...
The dashboard only reads the values and assigns them - hence no dew point and not wind chill.

When you populate the dashboard via Meteobridge or via CumulusMX, these application programs have already calculated dew point and wind chill and therefore can also provide them in their post string to the dashboard server.
Same with outdoor min/max temperature.
via CumulusMX via GW1000 custom server

I've actually known this in the past and just completely forgot about these calculated fields. I ran cumulus mx for a while and it just didn't dawn on me, so thanks for the refresher. Makes perfect sense.

Just made an account & added details to my HP2551.

Noticed though that temp & pressure were displayed in imperial units, while the symbols indicated metric.
Selected the convert option & all looks fine.

I just signed up and started an account.
I use Meteobridge.
The displays are really nice.
I did notice that Meteobridge uses m/s for wind and
there is no conversion for m/s to mph.
I did get around it by using "ws=[wind0wind-max1=mph.1:--]"
in the meteobridge api setup instead of "ws=[wind0wind-max1.1:--]"
This is a really nice project.
Thanks,
Tom

So does this mean that the Ecowitt protocol that HP2551 etc send has data in imperial format regards of what's selected on the console.

Not sure, all I do is display what is sent.

I added the option to convert from one to the other because there is no guarantee that just because the display option set on the physical console is in one format that it will send data in the same format.

If your console is sending data that is different to what is displayed on the console then it must be that imperial is their default output.

it works - however the SM3 occurs twice (name), probably the 4th SM sensor needs to be renamed to Soil Moisture 4 8-)

There are 8 SoilMoisture sensors possible though. I cannot show all of mine. Maybe you add 4 more :-)

The lightning sensor would be great too - it shows 3 values: strike count, distance, and last occurrence (date/time).

Do you provide posting strings for Meteobridge and CumulusMX for the extended Ecowitt dashboard, or do the users have to "doctor" it themselves ?

2nd Soil Moisture 3 has been renamed to Soil Moisture 4 [tup]
What about a second line for SM sensors 5-8 ?

The lightning sensor depiction is imho not really satisfactory - what you show is the distance of the last strike only - not very informative as the only lightning information.
You have to show 3 values which the console sends:
(1) "lightning_time" date/time of last strike in EPOCH format e.g."1626810900"; to be translated into 20-07-2021 19:55 UTC
(2) "lightning_num" strike count at current date usually "0", only different on days with strikes
(3) "lightning" lightning distance of last strike; e.g.:"27" km

This is also the sequence of importance - where (1) and (2) together give already a lot of information which will be completed by the distance information (3).

Thanks for the information. I am looking at ways of doing this.

Are you running the console on a tablet/ipad?

So far it's running (wrong wording) , it's being viewed (as it runs on the server) on a PC.
I could also look it up in a browser on my Fire HD tablet (10").

one more thing:
in order to send the proper data from CumulusMX it is not enough to know the CumulusMX web tag.
We also need to know the 2-letter (or more) tag you use for your dashboard:
e.g. sr=<#SolRad>
what are your tags ? [in front of the "=" sign]
extraTemp one can guess: could be t1-t8, h1-h8 for extraHumid
what about CO2 values, soil moisture sensors ?

I will be updated the CumulusMX and API instructions with the additional console tags (parameters) once I have figured them all out.

Hi Gyvate,

I have added the additional Soil sensors, however to accommodate this I have dropped the battery.

There is a fine balance between a quick easy to read screen and a cluttered mess. WeatherWizz is about trying to pick what is the most commonly used values and displaying them in a way that at quick glace it’s easy to read. So I use the rule that if I can read the values at 10 feet away we’re good. If not, then it’s too small and some values have to get dropped ☹

This is my iPad Pro and I can only just read this from 10 feet away :)

If the date/time of the last strike could be shown in small letters like the distance next or under the lightning count, that would be great.

Looking at @SnowEntry's iPad picture, one more row would be possible and not impact visibility.
Theoretically space for 8 more sensors.
E.g. 4 x WH41/43 = PM2.5 , 1 x CO2-PM2.5, 1 x CO2-PM10 and two spare places ....
or 2 x WH41/43, 1 x CO2-PM2.5, 1 x CO2-PM10 and 4 more spaces - for leaf moisture (still to come)

One thing to keep in mind is that during the year, some sensors may come and go. In my case soil sensors as I don't need all of them in the winter and remove their batteries and store the sensor. Ecowitt.net handles this by dropping the tile after a certain period of time if no data received.

Lightning works great now [tup] =D> - the respective CumulusMX string is:

users can remove the sensors they don't have - then "--.-" will be shown for the missing ones, otherwise "0" if they don't have these sensors but still have CumulusMX send data [CumulusMX will then send "0"].
The lightning time will then show in the format YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SSZ, If one prefers a different time format ' format="dd-MM-yyyy HH:MM:SS" ' has to be removed and the tag <#metdate> added:
lt=<#LightningTime><#metdate> modified to match one's wishes.

Only the Ecowitt/Fine Offset custom server version seems not yet to work properly for the lightning time stamp - for my console it shows 12-08-2021 (not sure if this is supposed to be 12-Aug-2021 or 08-Dec-2021) - but this date lies in the future and is surely not sent by the console. The console sends the number of seconds passed since 01-Jan-1970, the Unix time or EPOCH time.
The proper time it has to show is 12-Jul-2021 22:08 (12-07-2021). You can look up FBDYSOLGQP for the proper value(s).
Similar situation with the soil moisture values for the custom server
a) only 4 instead of 5 shown
b) value assignment is not consistent - it should match the CumulusMX result but doesn't (double assignment ?)

EDIT: time format changed from format=u to format="dd-MM-yyyy HH:MM:SS"

For the lightning time in Cumulus MX, the format string "g" may be appropriate for most people as it formats according to your locale?

Code: [Select]
lt=<#LightningTime format=g>
Examples...

2009-06-15T13:45:30 -> 6/15/2009 1:45 PM (en-US)

2009-06-15T13:45:30 -> 15/06/2009 13:45 (es-ES)

Sure, understood, but the "u" format appends a "Z" which implies the time is in UTC, it isn't in .Net unless you first convert to UTC then use the "u" format. So you will be getting the time in the local TZ with a UTC designator. Even more confusing!

The "U" format outputs a full ISO date//time format, but this time always converts it to UTC.

If you want the "u" format, in local time, with 24h, and without the trialling Z, then use "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss"

Anyway enough side tracking this post!

One more remark - I suggest to have the soil moisture values to be right justified in their box (now they are left justified) so that they align +/- with the extra temp and extra hum values.
Otherwise, to me, it looks like a symmetry break.

Hey Phil23,

Just looking for these WH41 & WH43 Air Quality sensors you have. I don't see anything for WH41 / 43 coming from your station. At best I see wh65 and wh25 battery = (0) zero, perhaps that I why I don't see the values because the battery is flat?

Can you confirm your station ID, just so I know I am looking in the right place.

Thanks!

The WH41/43 identifiers should be like:
pm25_ch1;pm25_avg_24h_ch1;pm25_ch2;pm25_avg_24h_ch2 - like my console posts - and these are µg/m3
and the WH45 particulate matter sensors are:
pm25_co2;pm25_24h_co2;pm10_co2;pm10_24h_co2, units also µg/m3

The _co2 comes from the fact that the WH45 is a 5-in-1 sensor combo with internal Temperature, internal humidity, PM2.5, PM10 and CO2 sensors.
It's so-to-say "the CO2 combo".

Just a note on &lt=<#LightningTime format="dd-MM-yyyy HH:MM:SS">

for ecowitt that sends date serial / unix, I have modified the backend to convert the date serial to the local time zone from which the console is being viewed.

for cumulus, if you use &lt=<#LightningTime format="dd-MM-yyyy HH:MM:SS">, no conversion will be done the value will just display as you send it (this works well provided you don't share your console with users/family in a different time zone) as this would not make sense to them especially if you are like me and ahead in time of most people as it would look to you like I am predicting the future LOL. however if you send &lt=1626120513 then it will be converted to the viewers local time.

So it's probably best to stick with date serial / unix.

I disagree - the station sends soilmoisture5.
When I compare with my CumuluMX fed console, it also shows 5
But the 1st 4 in CMX are not the 1st 4 in the custom server console fed dashboard

the CMX sequence shown is: 1-2-3-4-5
the custom server sequence is: 1-3-2-5 (4 missing) - such a sequence cannot come up - either 4 is omitted or double assigned and only the last value shows

I disagree - the station sends soilmoisture5.
When I compare with my CumuluMX fed console, it also shows 5

now sorted out ! right sequence - the values of SM5 will adjust over time

This is more of a general question for everyone.

Out of everyone who has set up their stations, How hard was it to understand the instruction and do you think you will continue to use WeatherWizz virtual console in the future?

I thought it was very easy to set up my ambient station.

And yes, I already have it bookmarked!

Just one question does ambient send the max gust for the day and is it displayable?

Hey Phil23,

Just looking for these WH41 & WH43 Air Quality sensors you have. I don't see anything for WH41 / 43 coming from your station. At best I see wh65 and wh25 battery = (0) zero, perhaps that I why I don't see the values because the battery is flat?

ID as in https://www.ecowitt.net/home/index?id=54277 ?

I don't see any battery issues, and the above feed is from the HP2551 which received an update yesterday.
Both Easyweather & Firmware in the console are current.

I also have a GW1000 feeding to Ecowitt & CMX, but didn't use It's feed.

yes it does send it. However the console is already way too full.

without changing anything at my end finally the proper sequence for sensors 1-4 appeared in the custom server dashboard - and even a 5th soil moisture sensor - so
a) the sequence must have been wrong before at the dashboard
and
b) the 5th sensor was still sent (maybe temporarily only that's what I'm still figuring out)
So my disagreeing with only 4 sensor data being sent was and remains correct - only that at the VC end now things are obviously sorted - in order to verify I changed the ID of my 5th sensor to see if it appears at a different sensor position, what it now does but didn't before.

These SM sensors can be a bit "moody" so it takes time ...

no more disagreement - with the soil moisture.
Regarding your statement that the console/dashboard is already full, I still disagree.
Your iPAD picture shows that another line would still fit without over-populating the console - it would still fit on one "page"/screen without making the other sensor data smaller. Just have a look.

Hi Gyvate, that is true for me.

However we don't all have ipads. Most have much smaller tablets like the ipad mini or android 7in low resolution devices. If I pack too much information into the screen then it scales poorly and readability becomes a problem. The balance has to be between what information is important while supporting the majority of devices screen sizes.

Have you tried this theme on your tablet ?

first a suggestion: switch the extra Temp and Humidity lines - temp first

Tried on my FireHD and my Samsung S10.

Vertically I can see everything on the FireHD and even 2 more lines/rows could fit to fill the screen (in Firefox browser, same in the Amazon Silk browser) - in the S10 vertically it becomes two columns with the air pressure and rain overlapping.

Horizontally it's a mess on the S10 because you cannot scroll down in both browsers.
In the FireHD the same, only more visible, but not everything - including the extra Humidity (or if you change the sequence what I recommend - temp over hum - then the extra Temp row.
Being able to scroll down would be helpful, having the "more important", basic sensors up, and the "secondary sensors" one can view scrolling further down.
Not sure if this a page issue at your end or a browser issue.

But on a 10" tablet vertically it's perfect, and, as mentioned before, even two more rows could fit to fill the screen.

Unfortunately on the tablet/smartphone I cannot zoom out (make the view smaller) in these browsers as I can do on a PC (or I don't know how to do, the two finger wiping has no effect for smaller, only for bigger)

Hi Gyvate,

This is what I thought, the resizing of busy consoles does not work well. Responsive web dev is always much better when there are less elements to worry about.

My intention is to have a clean full screen none scrollable console display that one can put onto a cheap tablet and stick it on to the wall. It will surly never be able to display everything because there are just too many potential sensors. To make it scrollable break point of having a real time virtual console so the compromise is to pick out the common elements over most weather stations.

Perhaps I am wrong? maybe others prefer to just use web pages like wu and not really interested in virtual consoles.

Perhaps others can share their views? maybe?

I applaud your efforts, and I think you just explained very well the purpose of your offering and what it is intended to do. I do believe for some having a simple display with basic information is exactly what they will want. Others of course will want everything, or a varying subset. For those that want everything, there are already sites that they can go to that have it, and other means on top of that.

Since you support more than just Ambient/Ecowitt devices, I can imagine this becoming frustrating for you trying to appease everyone.

Also since this is a free service that you are offering, I see it as being well within your purview to limit the display per your original concept of simplicity and readability at a distance.

I love that your displays are clean and not cluttered, but compact enough to put useful information on the screen. So regardless of how much I like seeing certain items, I can understand why you don't include them.

I actually do have an old ipad that I'm going to charge up and see how the latest blue ecowitt template looks on it.

That's how the latest version of this dashboard theme looks on my FireHD tablet - I still suggest switching extra Humidity and extra Temperature, i.e. temperature first ;) - and have the extra temp/hum values left justified in their box, card, whatever you call it 8-)

I think the options need expanding to avoid the clutter.
As yet I can't see my AQ sensors, but real-estate can be allocated to 8 T&H & 4 soil in some examples.

Don't ever see myself having that many temps etc.

What I presently see is what I have on hand & on order.

Basic Sensor suite
Inside & Outside AQ.
Combined AQ & CO2,

and maybe one or two of the the other varieties available.

I'd certainly not be populating 16 extra boxes as is available for the T&H's etc.

Cheers

Phil.

They are no longer on the web site for selection, but can still be accessed
e.g. www.weatherwizz.com/ew0001/XXXXXXXXXX (your console ID)
ew0001 is the only extended EW theme which either still exists or ever existed

I have pushed a new concept for weather stations with a lot of sensors while trying to maintain the virtual console concept.

You will find this in a new section named 'experimental', once loaded the Console will flip between the standard readings and the extensive sensors. Let me have your "NICE" opinions :)

Excellent solution [tup]
2 suggestions:
- switch UV with solar radiation (i.e. solar radiation first)
- switch wind speed with wind gust (i.e. wind gust first)
reasoning: UV and wind speed are both (UV mostly) calculated values from the solar radiation resp. wind gust

I like the rolling template. It's a useful way of publishing the information.

Personally, I don't use all that many sensors, but it's nice to know that should I expand the sensors are already there. Putting in another word for max gust, since I find myself looking for it.

For some reason, however, my data has stopped updating. Not sure if it's me or the website.

Hey funsutton,

i have put max daily gust under the icon next to wind gust for now.

It doesn't look the best at the moment as I have a question, what is more important do you think, the max daily gust or the max gust in the last x mins.

I think ecowitt send x as max gust in last 10 mins or something like that.

I just realized something that's extremely useful during a storm, and that's the rain rate. I don't know if you can fit that in there, but that's one thing I love about WU, is that it shows the rain rate when it changes during a storm.

If it's already on there and I missed it, my apologies.

Thanks for the url, I have updated it but removed the date time format for Lightning, if I have worked my magic correct it should format the serial date time to your local date time format.

Would you mind trying it and letting me know if the date time of the lightning is formatted correctly.

unfortunately it then shows only hh:mm PM - a little helpful piece of information compared to full date time
that's why I started using the formatting " format="dd-MM-yyyy HH:mm:ss" "

There was also a correction in the string for gust - see my earlier posting marked bold
that's the actual peak value - and that's what's interesting to see imo

Interesting, so the one you have removed the formatting from is sending the Lightning time as "7:32 PM", I was expecting the unix time stamp. Is this CumulusMX?
Title: Re: Ambient Weather Station Beta Testers needed :)
Post by: Gyvate on July 27, 2021, 10:26:52 AM
yes, CumulusMX - you have to use a specially formatted webtag to get the date as dd-mm-yyyy HH:mm:ss or any format (dd/mm/yyyy HH:mm:ss, or mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm, the latter will become hh:mm AM/PM depending) - the console sends EPOCH.
I can probably also tell CMX to send EPOCH, though. didn't work. :-(

Thanks for all the changes you continually make to your templates.

I only have a couple suggestions left.

1. Is it possible to put a pause button (pushpin) on the experimental template so i can stop it on the first page, or to just duplicate the primary page onto another template? I only have two temp sensors and there are times I'd just rather see the main page without it switching.

2. I wanted to drop you a one time donation but I couldn't find a way to do so. Maybe I missed it...?

Aside from the max gust not populating, it looks and works great.

I am not using a small device. Rather I have a 12-inch ipad I bought some time back so I just have it set up beside where I work. And it looks great on it. I actually have my ambient console up over a door frame in my office to deal with reception issues, and it's far enough away that my aging eyes can't see it that well. So this is perfect.

But what makes this solution even more perfect is that I can pull it up on my phone and easily see my updated data when I'm not home.

Thanks for all that you've done with this. I hope it ends up being a great success for you.

I am not seeing any data in Apparent Temperature when set to "Feels Like". If I change to Wind Chill/Heat Index, I get a wind chill temperature but that really isn't of value in the summer.
Title: Re: Ambient Weather Station Beta Testers needed :)

Hi WI1SKY!

If you select Feels Like you will only see this value if you station is sending it otherwise it will just show something like _._.

Wind Chill/Heat Index only work if you station is sending both values.

feel free to shoot me an email with you station id and I can checkout what data I am receiving.

Hi jmello65,

I don't own an ecowitt station so when I was making my instruction on how to set it up I took all my information given to me from the good people here who helped me out.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. But as I understand it, you should have an ecowitt mobile app that you use to enter the settings.

Do you have the ecowitt mobile app?

Hi @jmello65
please open a new thread giving it a subject which summarizes your issue in the proper board

weatherflow tempest is NOT a FineOffset (clone) weather station - you have to post in the "other weather station hardware" board

Hi SnowSentry.

I finally had a thunderstorm overnight since I started using weatherwizz and according to my ambient console, i had 53 lightning strikes with the last one a distance of 9 miles.

However on sew0001 this is what it shows:

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

It does show the time and date of the last one, but no counts or distances. Just fyi.

Hi!

This is because the corresponding keys are different:

Ecowitt Ambient
lightning_num lightning_day
lightning lightning_distance

Should be easily fixed on server side.

Hi!

May I express another wish?
It would be very helpful if we could change the names of the sensors - for example instead of H1 "Kitchen" or instead of Soil Moisture 3 "Lawn".
This would increase the clarity - especially with a large number of sensors.
In the dashboard there could be another point "Name your Sensors", in which you can make a simple assignment:
H1: sensor name
T1: sensor name
SM1: sensor name

I realize that there will be problems with the length of the names. But you could cut off names that are too long so that the layout is not destroyed.

That would be helpful - probably for other users as well.

Perhaps I missed it in this thread, but I noticed on my dashboard (with ambient API key) that the Temp min/max aren't updated (just dashes), and that some of the gauges are blank at times -- I'm assuming this is because the value hasn't changed or something. Example: My wind-chill is almost always dashes and the UV sometimes is.

Hi kheller2,

The Ambient API does not support Temp Min/Max nor does it support Wind-Chill/Heat index. It does appear to support the UK "Feels Like" so perhaps switch your settings for Apparent temperature to "Feels Like". As for UV I can see the the value updating on your dashboard not sure what you are seeing.

Hope this helps :)

But - as far as I can see - only for paying members (patreons) for 3,50EUR plus tax per month.

Depending on how you are connecting, if you are using Cumulus or custom api, you will need to modify the parameter to send that data in the format you want it displayed. For example, for US date you can modify the URL string to be

lt=<#LightningTime format="MM-dd-yyyy HH:mm:ss">

for the distance, the URL has &ls=<#LightningDistance> Maybe someone knows how to change this from km to miles?

Over the past few months, we've been busy adding new features and dashboard themes to WeatherWizz to give you lots more things to play with :-)

And now, for Patrons, all new customizable dashboard themes have arrived on WeatherWizz! Choose from a range of styles. Select which sensors you want displayed. Even choose where you want those sensors.

Hey there!

To kick off the new year, I'm excited to let you know that WeatherWizz custom dashboards now feature built-in pop-up charts.

Tap on just about any sensor for a quick snapshot of the day's weather trends. Easily see minimum and maximum values as well as the times these occurred.

If you're using a custom dashboard, simply refresh your dashboard to activate the charts and start tapping away!

Thank you for supporting WeatherWizz and happy new year!

Hey Gyvate,

Of the WeatherWizz patreon supporters who have lightning sensors i ran a poll at the time of development and it was seen as not required for a real time dashboard.

Upon thinking about this, it kind of made sense to me since we are trying to see a snap shot of the current weather conditions and not that I had a lightening strike 3 weeks ago. So seeing the count for the current day and the distance was enough to give a snap shot of the current weather conditions.

The Banner units, well it just needs a little TLC, which it will get soon :)

Cheers

Hi Olicat,

This feature is only available for Patreon supporters who have activated custom dashboards as they are the ones who asked for it :)

The ew... dashboards were developed during the beta phase to prove concepts and since then they have not been updated and they are no longer available to select. I have kept them running for those who were using them to test.

if you want to try the custom dashboards just shoot me an email at support@weatherwizz.com and i'll get that setup for you.

It’s only the second week of 2022 and we are ready to release our next biggest feature for our supporters!

I'm excited to let you know that WeatherWizz now has a wordpress plugin! Display your live weather data directly on your own wordpress sites with a simple shortcode in your text. And the really cool thing is that your visitors don’t need to refresh your web pages to get the latest weather data. WeatherWizz will automatically update the weather sensor data on your pages every 30 seconds as your visitors are reading! 😊

Available for WeatherWizz patrons.

Check out the instructions and examples here: https://www.weatherwizz.com/wordpressplugin

Hi All,

WeatherWizz can now link to your Amazon Alexa devices and read out your weather station data like this.
User: Alexa, Ask my weather station the temperature.
Alexa: The outdoor temperature is 32 degrees.

Check it out on the Amazon Alexa store!

It currently supports all English speaking regions. Happy to implement any other languages that Amazon support if anyone wants to help translate and test 😊

Hi Duncan,
even when your debug log doesn't show the reception and processing of my data, it doesn't mean it's not an issue at your end. 8-)
Especially as other services in the internet did receive the data from the respective consoles. Might have just been an internet access issue at your end. Anyway - it's working again and thanks for attending. [tup]

Hi Duncan or whom I may concern,
I just noticed that all my widgets/banners from my (free) weatherwizz accounts have stopped working and now show an upgrade message.
Is this a mistake or are the banner users now forced into a paid subscription if they want to continue using the banner ?
Please advice.

Hi!

Has WeatherWizz now secretly and quietly removed the banner function from the free tariff?
What useful thing can you do with it now if you don't want to pay the monthly fees? Apart from the dashboard, it's useless, isn't it?
Changing the conditions afterwards is not acceptable!

edit:
Just found this sentence in the online help:

The free versions are no longer supported.
So there's no free plan at all anymore!

yes, Weatherwizz can no longer be recommended - due to a very intransparent business policy
deleting/disabling user accounts - removing the free versions without proper notice

spaming the email accounts with messages camouflaging their business behind "contribution to climate protection etc."

this is imho abuse !!!

using the forum community here for their testing and then just disabling their free accounts and forcing everyone into payment

I'm not against paid services, but (ab)using our community for free testing and then kicking the testers off - that's shameful !!!
