Hi guys,

looks like we have, unfortunately, another problem. In the history of MT I have changed the data source for forecasts 3 times already, always trying to find the best free option.

Unfortunately, the current global trend is to discontinue all free products or reduce them to bare minimum, some sort of a trial. This has happened numerous times in the past and I fear it will be more and more common.

Today I received another email of this kind. Dark Sky, the main provider for all forecast data for Meteotemplate has been taken over by Apple and guess what, no more free API registrations and the current ones will work until the end of 2021.

My goal was to create a template that has no extra costs (other than a donation to cover the costs for licenses, hosting etc., which about 30 % users really provided). There are no other costs apart from maybe the GrLEVELX plugin which requires the GrLevelX software which is not free, but thats one plugin out of hundreds.

Dark Sky was the last data source, which provided data for free, but in a very good form, detailed. Now this is no longer the case, Apple immediately after purchase decided to stop this (you probably know I am not a fan of Apple, but in this case I am not saying this because of this, this is an objective statement). Similraly to what Weather Underground did a few years back when bought by another company.

Not quite sure what to do now. Maybe just remove all forecasts and concentrate on data from your station. The original concept was for you to create a very complex page with all sorts of weather information - data from your station was the basis, complemented by radar images, forecasts etc. etc. However, the global internet trends change, more and more often you run into copyright issues, paid services... We have to decide - either have a template basically just about your station data, or have a wider-focused template, but with additional costs (usually in the form of subscription, another popular trend of all companies to generate continuous profit).

There are other free forecasts, mostly owned by "government"

The NWS forecasts are free, but cover only the USA
=> https://www.weather.gov/documentation/services-web-api#

The met.no forecasts are not that extensive (no textual description) but are usable worldwide
=> https://api.met.no/weatherapi/locationforecast/1.9/documentation

Another clone of met.no is yr.no
=> https://hjelp.yr.no/hc/en-us/articles/360001940793-Free-weather-data-service-from-Yr

Then there are the forecast for those station-owners which upload to
WeatherUnderground  => https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eKCnKXI9xnoMGRRzOL1xPCBihNV2rOet08qpE_gArAY/edit

PWSweather =>get an API key from Aeris
=> https://www.aerisweather.com/signup/pws/

Yes, there have been numerous "out-of-service" API's these last three years.
But there are still other "free' options available.

Best regards, keep up the good spirit in these difficult times

Wim

Hi Wim,

yes you are right, although neither of them offer as detailed forecast as Dark Sky. Users also reported it was quite accurate.

Hi
if anyone uses Meteobridge to upload sensor data to Meteotemplate - and has more than one PM2.5 sensor and more than 4 soil moisture sensors (and lightning sensor data) to upload - the inbuilt Weather Net upload cannot do this - so far.
I have created a workaround until after maybe some time the inbuilt upload might be updated ....

For those interested, you can look it up at

Hi guys,
i've imported about 5 years of data through weather display log files.
I've ran reformat.php but it seems doesn't work.
My db is formatted with 1 minute interval.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,

Alessandro

Hi guys,

this is just to say hi and to assure you that Meteotemplate is not dead. About 3 yrs ago the development slowed down a lot due to my new job. That settled down a bit and COVID19 arrived, leaving me with extra work that I had to do as I was one of very few who still  went to work in person. Then I got to know someone, who currently is my wife :D and we got ourselves two dogs and now we are moving to our new own house with a nice garden. In addition I finally finished my PhD thesis so I have a graduation this December.

That said, I tried to spend time on Meteotemplate, but... I get about 20-30 emails a day related to it. Just dealing with the support therefore takes at least 30-45 minutes every day, which is about as much time I can currently devote to it. I know I said there will be a new version and that holds, but it will not be as soon as I thought. Hopefully next year things will calm down and I definitely still enjoy the development so there will be new stuff. I already have something prepared :).

Also, our own house means I will finally be able to have my own weather station again, which was not possible for the last 3 years.

Wish you all nice day from Brno, Czech Rep.

Hi folks, i have a few niggles i would like to iron out, please,

The 1st one is the Rain block as that's visible, the liquid graphics did work, then didn't, then did and now they don't, i do see this error in the console but i don't know the resolution;

Code: [Select]
VM90:37 Uncaught ReferenceError: d3 is not defined
    at loadLiquidFillGauge (eval at <anonymous> (jquery.min.js:2), <anonymous>:37:17)
    at eval (eval at <anonymous> (jquery.min.js:2), <anonymous>:55:20)
    at eval (<anonymous>)
    at jquery.min.js:2
    at Function.globalEval (jquery.min.js:2)
    at m.fn.init.domManip (jquery.min.js:3)
    at m.fn.init.append (jquery.min.js:3)
    at m.fn.init.<anonymous> (jquery.min.js:3)
    at m.access (jquery.min.js:3)
    at m.fn.init.html (jquery.min.js:3)

The other is some of the plugins don't work as they should, such as the extended graphs, namely the Interactive and the Comparison graphs, the other 3 are ok, the same with the Station data comparison, which doesn't work at all, it just throws up "Data N/A" for both METAR and WU.

Kind regards
Bashy

Can you share the address of your site?

Is this a 'new installation' ( a few pages do not 'behave well' with only a few weeks of data )?

If I remember correctly I solved the extended graph issue modifying the indexDesktop.php ( in the root directory of meteotemplate ) script to use highcharts v6.1 ( in lines 189-190 ).

Regarding the rain block I can visualize it correctly

Maybe you can try a different browser or clearing the cache of the browser

Hi, thanks for the help, sadly it didn't work for my issue, those 1st 2 graphs just will not play ball

Woah, that's so weird the rain graphics working for you, they do not for me and I've tried Chrome (go to browser), Edge and Firefox, its also the same on my weather laptop for both Chrome and Edge, its also the same on my Note 20 Ultra 5G using Chrome and Samsung browser, and the same on 4x Tab S2's and Nvidia Shield K1 tablet perhaps at the time you checked it was working, maybe its not now? Just check all of my devices and they all show it not working, really weird, perhaps its a server thing?

I really don't get it, Just noticed an update for the Chrome browser on my lappy and now the rain graphic is showing but its still not on everything else, what is going on here :/

Regarding the extendedGraph I noticed your plugins/extendedGraphs/highstock.js scripts is slightly different from mine ( only in 5 points it has https in place of http ).
I tried your highstock.js script on my testing server and it misbehaves as on your server.
It's worth a try.

P.S.
After substituting the script need to clear cache/site data or use a different browser

Super Gyvate you nailed it.
The correct site url is that given in the main setup of meteotemplate ( same as clicking the home icon )
So the Bashy site url should be: https://www.brecklandweather.com/meteo/indexDesktop.php
The Gyvate site url should be: http://meshka.eu/meteo/template/indexDesktop.php
Other urls may work partially ( as you experienced ):
http://www.brecklandweather.com/meteo/indexDesktop.php
http://brecklandweather.com/meteo/indexDesktop.php

This is what is in my htaccess file

Hi folks, i need a little help with the webcam image saving to the db, it use to work for about 3 months back in 2017  :lol: #-o :roll: :roll:

It stopped a few months later and i never even noticed cause i don't look at the webcam  :oops:

To be honest, i really do not have a clue as to why it would stop, well, apart from the db settings
but i think it works off the main db settings so they must be correct as the weather data is updating the db
Unless i have it totally wrong?

https://www.brecklandweather.com/meteo/plugins/webcam/index.php

Thanks...
