WS-5000 sensor array firmware
« on: October 26, 2021, 12:01:02 PM »
I see that Ecowitt has a firmware update for the WS-80 sensor array. I have a WS-2000 currently and was going to update to the WS-5000 sensor array. I gave Ambient a call this am and asked if the firmware for their WS-5000 array would be upgradeable. He said all upgrades were handled through the console. I wasn't sure if this made sense but thought I would ask those more familiar with the Ambient version their opinion.

You have to wait until Ambient makes a firmware available. The tend to lag behind Ecowitt releases, as they do use a modified firmware.
I would continue to check the Ambient Website

On the WS80, it is device direct, so the Ambient guy was thinking of the console only. But , you still have to wait for an Ambient release.

Thanks. Do you know if Ambient has ever updated their version of the array? I didn't see anything outside of the  console updates.

Ambient do not update or create any firmware of the FineOffset clone devices they sell under the Ambient brand.
They receive the (on their request) modified firmware for consoles and sensors from Fine Offset/Ecowitt.

The WS80 update is an update on the sensor array, especially on the ultrasonic component. It may or may not need a special version for Ambient, depending on whether the update touches the Ambient modification part of the array firmware.
However, newer versions of the WS80 produced have the update already inbuilt.

The same might be the case for the Ambient specific arrays - so if they are waiting to fill their stock, the probability is high that the ultrasonic array comes already with the new firmware version.
