This will put a chill into your britches
« on: March 03, 2014, 12:38:18 AM »
I send weather data daily to globe.gov.  Looking over the FTP log, I find this which is eye opening:
  1) this computer, 2) this computer network, 3) all computers connected to this  network, and 4) all devices and storage media attached to this network or to a computer on this network. You understand and consent to the following: you may access this information system for authorized use only; you have no reasonable expectation of privacy regarding any communication of data transiting or stored on this information system; at any time and for any lawful Government purpose, the Government may monitor, intercept, and search and seize any communication or data transiting or stored on this information system; and any communications or data transiting or stored on this information system may be disclosed or used for any lawful Government purpose.

I believe they are referring to 'www.globe.gov' and its systems, not yours.  If they're talking about your home network, I would be very surprised.  In that case I would question their sanity and run like he!!.

I think they're just issuing a standard 'CYA' regarding the information you send them and the information they send you, i.e. it isn't encrypted but they also own it.  (If they're saying they also own you, what else is new???  In for a penny, in for a pound...)

So... This is news? Or are you surprised that they actually put it in writing?

I have never saw that in the FTP logs before, this is something new.  I check the logs every now and then,  so when I did "now" they were there.

I am guessing that when the NSA  sends the Dark OPS to my house, I then can't say " Well, you never told me you were spying on my oggling of weather equipment.  Yes, yes,  that Davis unit has a nice 'bracket' if you know what I mean, nudge, nudge, say no more."

I was referring to the Gov monitoring and/or taking anything they want anytime they want in general. Not just the FTP log entry.
