Comcast and my Docsis 3.0 cable Internet modem
« on: April 05, 2012, 04:01:27 PM »
I had a tech. over to the house on Sat. to repair a signal loss issue on one of my outlets.  In conversation with him, he stated that my local area was about to get a speed increase.  Apparently they were upgrading the headend to support Docsis 3.0 Multichannel bonding modems.  Normally my Docsis 3.0 modem was only receiving 1 upstream and downstream channel at about a max speed 16down/3up.  I noticed in the connection logs of my weather computer that there was no internet service last night for about 4 hours, but it was restablished now.  When I did a speed check a few minutes ago for the sake of it at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ .  I got the numbers displayed below.  I will have to say extreme win for the DAY!.    \:D/

My next test will be with my currently 6 operating computers, 5 mobile devices, and 2 Apple TVs to see how much streaming I can sustain constantly pulling through the connection.  Of course with such a speed increase, I will have to keep an eye on Comcast's "Unlimited" download cap of 250G. :-k

Congrats on the new modem, very cool!  8-)

One thing about multiple channels and DOCSIS 3 is that you will notice much more consistency in your speeds,
especially if you are in a node that's already saturated.  I've run 3 Netflix devices simultaneously all downloading HD
content and haven't seen a hiccup here on Cox (25 down) with 3 bonded downstream channels.

Let me know if you blow that 250 gig cap.  I have yet to break Cox's 250 limit with tons of HD movie viewing
4 mobile devices and 5 PC's.
