New station on-line, just in time...
« on: November 21, 2011, 12:03:34 PM »
Saturday we installed a WeatherElement station at Creekside Farms, in See Canyon near Avila Beach, CA. See Canyon is on the other side of the Irish Hills from my SLOweather.com station, so it gives a different window into how the Hills affect orographic enhancement.

See Canyon is also a perfect microclimate for growing apples.

Sunday morning it started raining a little before 3AM, and rained for about 12 hours straight. That new station saw a peak rain rate during the first wave of 15" per hour! By the time it got to us, it was down to 3" per hour. Same thing yesterday afternoon. Creekside had a peak rain rate of about 5.25" per hour which dropped to 2.5" when it got to us about 45 minutes later.

The jet stream had a little kink in it that was steering the storms right over us off the Pacific. For the 13 hours or so of rain, Creekside got 2.30", and SLOweather got 3.33".
