First post here...

I am trying to find a new sensor array that is compatible with my WS-1201-IP console, which has a graph feature on the main screen (no clicks needed).

From looking at Gyvate's Compatibility Matrix, it looked like the WS-2902A sensor arrays might be a possibility.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Or, can you recommend an alternative?

Thanks a bunch

If I recall correctly the WS-1201-IP (Ambient Weather) uses the boat type of external all in one sensor array and as such is 'old' technology now.
It might still be possible to buy one from AW in the USA if they still hold stock....this is your surest bet!
If they have none then you could try Ecowitt who might be able to procure a compatible 915Mhz one for you (Lucy at support@ecowitt.com) since the AW stations are manufactured by Ecowitt's sister company (Fine Offset) - Correction - do not try a Ecowitt/Fine Offset model even on the correct frequency as AW 'key' the sensors in firmware so this will not work.

The newer all in one (tri or Bi-Wing sensors) will work (I believe) with your station but the wind calculation will be wrong and will need a offset calculation. I cannot recall if the rain gauge also needs adjusting. I am sure that there are some folks on this forum that have mix and matched old consoles with newer sensor arrays. Again, AW might well be able to sell you one and advise appropriately.

Yes the WS-1201-IP is the old "boat" type all-in-one sensor array. This part is referred to as the WH24. I would not recommend getting this as a replacement, because it is old technology. The sensors in the newer all-in-one are much better, more accurate and more precise, and last longer. Not just temperature and humidity but also the wind for example is more accurate even at low speeds because it counts half revolutions instead of just full revolutions. The wind vane in the new design is also dampened and is therefore more accurate. Same goes for the rain sensor. Essentially every sensor has been improved.

The good news is that the new array is somewhat compatible with the old console. But it will require you to make some calibration adjustments because of the way wind speed is measured at 2 clicks per revolution versus a single click of the old sensor. Same goes for the rain sensor as there is an adjustment calibration required for spoon size difference I believe. There are a few old posts that describe all of this with the recommended calibration adjustments when you use the new all-in-one sensor versus the old model. I'm sure you'll find it if you search, or let us know if you can't and then maybe someone else can find it.

The most important thing for you to realize is that you can not go to Ecowitt and ask them for a 915 MHz sensor array. This is because it will not be compatible ...as you can't use Ecowitt sensor with Ambient consoles. You can use Ambient sensor with Ecowitt consoles though...but that is not your situation. So you can only order a replacement sensor from Ambient for your console.

You should consider the WS-1900 as a solution which comes with its own display. At one point this was cheaper than just getting the sensor array by itself. Seems crazy I know. So why not get a free display out of the deal. Or maybe you just don't want to mess with all the calibration complexities and just order the WS-2902 or WS-2000 so that it can get online and consider it a full upgrade. The WS-2000 does have full screen graphs.

Thanks for the great info. I will look into one of the related Ambient sensor arrays. That is a good suggestion to get a complete setup if the price is not to much. It sounds like performing the calibration is straight forward.

I am hoping to continue using my ObserverIP which is connected to Weather Underground. It is located in part of my home with my router and with good line of sight to the sensor array. I presume it could be setup to recognize a new sensor array.

If not, I could put the console from a new setup where the ObserverIP is currently.

Does that sound feasible?

Best regard,

You can have as many consoles as you want. The ObserverIP is but another console. The ObserverIP though won't be as difficult to configure for the newer array as it has an option for the newer sensor array.

Apologies for the slight gaff about going to Ecowitt for a 915Mhz sensor....my bad. Always forget about the locked firmware!
I have amended my post in case anyone brings this up in a search in the future!

It does?  The Ambient weather version of ObserverIP?

Looking at the last two firmware versions:
&stationtype=WS-1401-IP                                         &stationtype=WS-1401-IP
&stationtype=WS-1201-IP                                         &stationtype=WS-1201-IP
&stationtype=WS-0800-IP                                         &stationtype=WS-0800-IP
&stationtype=WS-0900-IP                                       <
&stationtype=WS-1600-IP                                         &stationtype=WS-1600-IP
&stationtype=WS-1500-IP                                         &stationtype=WS-1500-IP
&stationtype=WS-1501-IP                                         &stationtype=WS-1501-IP
&stationtype=WS-1900-IP                                         &stationtype=WS-1900-IP
                                                              > &stationtype=WS-1700-IP

I do see WH22, 24, 25 and 26 ID's but think 4.6.1 dropped WH22.

I don't know what a WH22 is.  I do know what a WH24 and WH25 are though.

Grumble. Go here https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/GenericSearch.cfm. Sent grantee to WA5, at bottom set results to 100.  Hit go, look for WH22B.  Click the detail link on the left. I think this was in the 5300 series and a few other units. Oddly enough I stumbled upon a few on eBay that look like the pics. FO has a manual for it too if you google it.

Oh okay I remember the WH22 now that I got to see the FCC picture. That is ancient, was sold as part of the Ambient WS-900-IP.  No bueno.
