There is now a Google Member map, thanks to an SMF modification (see the MEMBER MAP in the navigation links).
To place your Station on the map, just view the map and click on the
"Click here to go place your pin if you have not already." at the bottom of the map, or
go to your Profile, Forum Profile Information page
Then find your location on the map, and click to place the marker. You can update the location at any time.
The Map is viewable only by logged-in members and shows the same information visible on your postings in the profile display area.
Enjoy!
Best regards,
Ken

NICE! I'm #3 for pinning :)
-
Very aesome Ken =D>
# pin5 from the long distance Greece :-)
-
Thanks Ken, got mine on there too. With just over 2600 members on here that should fill up nicely.

I think I will place my pin next to Dan's.

I don't think we'd have to worry about pin crowding over here if you do  but I believe you may have to change your profile's "custom title".
-
Neat.

I saw one interesting thing. When I was signing up I clicked on one of the pins to see what they showed and I saw that in one back yard there were big letters spelling USA (Curly). Awesome. Wish I had done that. \:D/ =D>

All it says is Curly. The pin is in Elkhart Indiana.
Also says: Michiana Weather

Yeah funny. I wonder how he knew when the pic would be taken?

Yah that's my back yard!
Fertilized USA in the yard back in 2004. I'm in a landing path for SBN airport and thought maybe it would brighten up the day for someone.
-
I put mine on there same as I have it on Weather Underground at the intersection of the main roads in and out of the area. I'm one of the 50+ houses in a <1/4 mile radius of the pin. ;)
That way I can check out visitors with my binoculars or gun scope and decide whether to shoot or phone you with the actual street name and number.

I had a neighbour that had another word "installed" in his backyard, but the kids did it with RoundUp.
-
Bushman,
I did not know that you lived in Canada.

Curly,
Great idea !! I am going to have to try that. we have planes going into Toledo Express come over quite often. I hope I don't mis-spell what I write #-o :!:

Awesome map!!
Google Maps are a great technology! A lot can be done with them!
-
Wow Ken - you've done it again - GREAT job =D>
Now, if only Google Earth would update their photos of western Nevada. The photo was taken in 2001 so my station looks like it is one of the sage brush on our lot
I've contacted Google Earth about getting the photo updated. Their reply was that they are concentrating on the more heavily populated and growing areas of the country and have no dates for getting my area redone. Oh well, they have their priorities... :-(

Ours was taken in 2004. Google has a street view of the house both the front and back since we are on a corner lot that is only a year or two old. I was amazed they even came around our little street.

My pic was from 2005, I noticed just the other day, that it got updated this past summer/fall 2009. I can tell exact date actually. We have had one garage sale ever.... just happened to be on the day we got our new pic. So my driveway looks like a bomb went off. Oh well, at least its green and the pool is open. I am used to my google pics being grey, no leaves on trees, and the pools all have black covers on them. I think that is my third google map update I have noticed since ??? google maps became popular. 2001 2005 2009... Not sure if 4 years is by plan or a fluke.

Perfect timing eh !
I think mine is at least that old or older. We are not a fast growing area...in fact we are a nothing actually :-P
Don't suppose we will get our picture taken any time soon! Was just watching "Criminal Minds" and Garcia can just pull up a new image anytime she likes!! That's the service we need \:D/

I don't have a street view photo near my house, (and there will probably never be one either).
Is there a way to tell when the photo from above was taken?
-
Lars, if i zoom in at my place using satellite picture i can See the year, 2009 it says here, as a watermark, shows better over water than land.

It's the same here, Thanks TorH

I just placed my pin. I am the only member from Alberta. Thanks, Ken, good job.
-
I dont think that is the picture/map date. I think its a copyright watermark that they forgot to make 2010....... I went to areas that are for sure not last year, and it still says "© 2009 Google" when mine was from 2005 it always had a current year copyright watermark and at the bottom of the map. The one at the bottom says 2010......

I guess that means port1 is your pin name. (insert rim shot here)

I was looking at the map and I see that I am the Northern most point in North America.

Santa Clause?????

Santa Clause?????
Could be one of Santa's little helpers too. Although I thought they spent the off season on an uncharted island in the gulf. :-k

Interesting that my pin is the first in the Central Valley of CA. The weather is not too interesting here however so maybe that is why.
It is unique that the exact spot on my property where the ISS is located can be pinned. No worry about unintended visitors coming looking for my weather station. Three big dogs, a locked gate, and a shotgun loaded with 00 buck tends to discourage intrusions. Remember, this is California - land of the nuts and fringe.

Try to find the map menu as instructed but not found .

The Google member map was disabled temporarily since it was based on Google V2 API (which Google turned off).
Unfortunately, there was no update to the plugin for the V3 API, so I'll have to rewrite it to bring it back.. it's on the 'to-do' list but it may be a while.
Best regards,
Ken
