Time server sync
« on: October 19, 2021, 12:09:34 PM »
How difficult would it be to add a "sync" button in the time server option for instant console time update? I know we can set an update interval, but Windows, for example, allows for an instant sync. Maybe for the next firmware/software update?

By the way, the update interval time I set does not update as frequent. My console is currently about 12 seconds behind atomic time. I have been watching it for 15 minutes with no change. I set the update frequency for every 10 minutes.

I was changing this algorithm. I do not remember how it is now.
If difference between NTP time and Console time is not bigger than 5 sec. then console time will be not updated. There was a time, when this diff parameter was 15 sec.

In Setup-> network info you will refresh NTP this will also trigger chacking time on console and update if needed. But still difference lower than 5 sec. will be avoided.

About NTP there is also another thing. NTP time comes from the internet without any CRC system. We do not know if this value is a time, or a trash from the Internet.
I have add function to check if difference NTP to Console Time is not bigger than 1 year.
So if you did not powered old console for a few years, then you have to set time/date manually, then NTP will start to work.
Windows XP had also such option. Too big time difference was avoided.

After I posted this, I reset the logger and the time was within a second. That is one way to do it. Good to know there is a specific coding, so know I know not to nitpick. I am just thankful this option is there. My old Oregon Scientific used atomic time updated6-8 times a day for precision. This is far better.
