I applied today.... Wait and see.
Joe
I purchased one but also filled out the request form and just received confirmation getting a FREE station + Solar Panel + Bracket (shipping not included). I requested one for a fellow enthusiast who is getting started into this community and did not want to miss the opportunity.
The terms state you need to download the app. get followers and must register it within 10 days or they may charge you for the full amount.
Understandable, you don't want people getting them for free and then selling them on Ebay.
Thank you BloomSky!
I got a email saying that they will send me a free station. But like you said I must get followers. I am not sure how many I can get in this area. I just might let it go and say I tired.
IF they send me one that would be the issue. I even put in the comments section that I didn't have 20 followers. That will probably nix getting the station but I had to be honest.Quote

I'm sure you'll get more than 20 followers from here alone.
And It's not always the location but the view.
This is an honest question, is this meant to be a serious PWS? I can't even get any specs on it..... :?
No surprise, another Netamo. I couldn't care less about those that use this personally, it's when these "scientific instruments" pollute the water with the crap that people put online. Am I harsh and shouldn't care? Yep, but that's how I feel. This is an honest question, is this meant to be a serious PWS? I can't even get any specs on it..... :?
IMHO.... no.... this is a webcam with some built-in sensors which provide approximate current weather conditions

The bottom line is that only better, more stringent QC would serve the purpose of how I envision online reporting. I don't think there are too many board members data here that I wouldn't trust, if any at all, as we're all basically enthusiast that want to get it as right as we can. Others, not so much.No surprise, another Netamo. I hear what you saying.
This is really for another discussion but at what point are can amateur weather devices co-exist with long standing professional weather stations? Since I'm new to the community I see both sides of embracing new technology but wanting to preserve tried and true methods using accepted equipment that has a proven track record.
Like the Netamo I not sure if WU is using the BloomSky data for modeling.
My Ambient is passing QC for CWOP but I'm not sure if that is what makes it acceptable as a "Scientific Instrument"?
I believe these devices serve a purpose but agree with the cross-over.
Very interesting.....

Mine shipped Feb 6 and will likely be delivered tomorrow if I can come up with the ransom/duty ;)Paul - Let me know what Canada Customs dings you for on this. I just signed up for one, but if I have to pay shipping and duties wondering if it is worth it.
Mine arrived this evening and I'll get it setup temporarily tomorrow. I want to mount it on the eve of the house this weekend. All I can say it this thing is heavy duty. The solar panel is huge (appox 15"x12")and the mounting bracket is made from thick aluminum. Here's a pic of it unboxed.

It looks like you have an AC adapter. Does it look like that can be used lue of the solar panel? Reason I ask is I have an outlet outside near where I want to mount my Bloomsky. And in ND, solar activity in the summer is quite limited. AC might be the more reliable way to go for me. That and I won't need a second post out back then. My current post isn't setup for southern exposure.
The Bloomsky can operate for about 14 days solo (no solar power). Then you should bring it indoors for a charge. The app will notify you when you reach that point. Looking at their map, they need some representation in ND. Go for it!!

The other issue I have is with the temp. Their rated temp is -4F. We routinely get below that. I'm guessing AC would help with that issue as well. Batteries don't hold their juice well at that low of a temp.
I see it as purely a solar powered webcam
Temp accuracy: +- 3 deg
Humidity +-4 percent
Operating range - 4 f / - 20 c to 131 f / 55 c
Rain gauge: "accurately predicts rainfall"
Wow...that's cold. That's a good question. If exposed to something below -4, I'm not sure bringing in it for a charge would help. I suspect it would based on how long it was subject to the extreme temps.
I'm confused. For those of you who did get an email saying you were accepted into the FREE program, what do you get for that FREE option? I read somewhere that once you get your acceptance email, you have to go to their website and select the configuration you want. If this is correct, what are the options available and what, if any, costs are involved with those selections? Are there shipping charges for any of the equipment within the US?
BTW, I signed up last week and was already confirmed for my Bloomsky unit. They gave me a coupon code that allowed me to "purchase" the solar powered unit for no charge. All I had to do is pay for shipping. I opted to pay $5 extra for UPS because US Postal in my neighborhood is most likely going to play soccer with the box before it gets to my house.
My only concerns are with power. I would hook it up to my existing post with my VP2. But that post isn't aligned for southern exposure and the solar panel. And that area will have the best view with few houses or trees blocking the setting sun. So that's where I want it. Worst case, I just put in a new post with proper alignment for the solar panel. It'll still be close to my power outlet I could use as well. I will probably go solar and see how that goes. Worst case, I plug in the AC adapter and disconnect the solar.
So hopefully this weekend, I'll have it online, if they deliver it like UPS expects. New unit in Bismarck, ND. Second in the state...
I requested a free weather station from Bloomsky and was selected! It arrived during the week and I set it up last Sunday afternoon. The folks at Bloomsky are encouraging us to get as many followers as we can. If you have the Bloomsky out there, please follow:
Crestmoor Station in San Bruno, CA
The first day I had the camera pointed straight up, but lowered it to capture more of the surroundings Monday evening.
It could be because they've extended the deadline a few times?
I got my invite and read through all the detail and went to order using the include redemption code (which I assume is what marks it for being free) and it said the code was no longer valid? I just got the email today.
Seems very sketchy.

Do you guys know about anyone being approved who is not from the US or Canada?Haven't heard of anyone yet.
Filled out the request form yesterday, and got an email today that I've been accepted. Now, just need to find out shipping and potential duties before I join.Me too. Although my acceptance email took 4 days.

Yes, which is why I thought at least someone would also be accepted, but so far no-one outside US or Canada seems to have been approved for this. I myself tried applying too and no-one ever got back to me.
Has anyone mounted this on a triangular antenna tower?
UPS shows my new Bloomsky will arrive on Monday - 2/15 - YAHOO! \:D/The indoor weather station was an option during their Kickstarter, but I don't think they sold many and dropped it shortly after they went live.
One question though. In the User Guide, on the first page I see a list of accessories. One of them intrigue me - Indoor Weather Station. See the attached image. Has anyone seen these?
Now, to scope out a good spot with a view of the lake. Hmmm. -27 with a breeze making wind chills in the minus 40's.... Perhaps I'll wait til it warms up.Congrats Chris, do ya think you're going to meet the 7 days to get it up and running ;) Here I might have to request an extension, especially if you check our SW Ontario radar and see that Lake Huron snow squall continuing - now in its 3rd day...
UPS tracking shows mine to arrive on Wednesday. Interesting. I chose the least expensive of the shipping options but still got UPS Ground.UPS is less expensive than USPS on heavy packages.

And I have added everyone here, I believe. Pretty interesting little unit. Will see how it matches up with my Davis.
One question. Does anyone know what the wireless range is on these things? Mine is currently attached to my veranda, which is on concrete. Looking to put it on a 4X4 fence post soon, but the distance will be about 80'-100' from the router.
