New Ambient WS-2902A in New Mexico
« on: April 13, 2019, 07:42:31 PM »
Now that it's been running smoothly for a couple of months, I thought I'd share pictures of my Christmas present: an Ambient Weather WS-2902A PWS, located in Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA. Due to my HOA's height restrictions, I opted to ground-mount the Osprey outdoor array 6 feet above the desert floor outside my house, atop a painted chain-link-fence terminal-post. And to allow easy movement between various test locations, the post is simply clamped into a patio-umbrella stand, ballasted by nearly 150 pounds of paving stones. Because this arrangement has proved to be stable through 50+ mph wind gusts, I may just use this mounting method permanently.

The radio link between the outdoor array and the indoor display console, separated by about 75 feet, is consistently strong, as is the wifi link to my router located 30 feet beyond the console. My preferred location for the display was on a wall above 3 light switches, so I decided to ditch the 5V outlet adapter and instead run a power cable in-wall, from the display to a replacement light switch that includes integrated USB power ports.

Nice job! I think your only worry might be some false rain tips under some strong, gusty winds from slight pole shimmy, but probably not worth worry about. If you are, get a Stratus gauge for backup.

Very nice wall install job. Great idea with the power cord. Nice find with that USB cable that has a side connection. Also good job turning the wall plate screws to all point in the same direction. You have good attention for detail...very professional.

Nice setup [tup]

What did you use for the bird spikes (got link)? I've been looking for something stock that would work as Ambient is out of stock.

Ecowitt had this first months ago. Same as what Ambient recently got and is now out of stock on:
