Identifying sensor only by its ID?
« on: September 18, 2021, 02:24:32 PM »
Is it possible to identify an in-real-life sensor if you know the ID?

If I have two soil sensors on a table and I know the ID for one is 0xD252 can I figure out which sensor it is?  Or is the only way to know to disconnect one (or change the soil moisture)?

Not sure if you have the Ecowitt (WH51) or the Ambient (WH31SM) version. The Ecowitt sensors come with the sensor ID on a sticker on the sensor.
However, if it got lost for both (or Ambient never put the sticker on), there remains only one way of recognizing it with the HP2551/WS-2000/WS-5000 console or with a GW1000:

- go to the sensors ID screen of your console (HP2551/WS-2000/WS-5000) in the setup; GW1000 in the WSView app
- note down the sensor IDs of your SM sensors
- remove the lid and the battery of one of the sensors and check which one still keeps the radio signal indicator
the one which remains active is the one with the sensor ID plus signal shown
the disconnected one will be the other one of the two whose sensor ID you have noted down

Then put again a sticker with the ID on the sensor (or mark them otherwise)

And yes, alternatively, you could also put one of them e.g. into a glass of water and see whose value rises.
So the two ways you already mentioned.  8-)

Thanks for the info - I wasn't aware that the sticker was the ID, too!  That's super helpful, thanks a bunch for your help.
