Maplin N23DQ solar panel
« on: January 19, 2020, 12:41:31 PM »
Hi folks.
Ive recently been having to remove and recharge the batteries from the main N23DQ unit (Ambient WS-1001) and it appears that the solar panel has failed.  Very irritatingly I cant find any specs, and ambient have just said 'we dont sell spares for that' rather than giving me the spec of the solar panel.
Im confused by the 15 cells per side that it seems to have, as to what the panel nominal or open circuit voltage should be, and therefore what I need to buy to replace it.
Has anyone got one in bits with a working solar panel that they can test for me?
Many thanks!
Stuart

I've got one of those arrays in a bit of a state but the solar panel and charging circuit working fine. Ill take some measurements tomorrow. Im not using it anymore. I upgraded to this : http://www.ecowitt.com/weather_station/70.html

Readings taken at 15:45 ,1hr 10min before sunset. Cloudy, no direct sunshine. 29.5w/m2. No batteries installed in the array.

Solar panel disconnected from pcb, panel outputting 7.0v with no load.

Solar panel connected to pcb. Measurement taken on panel connector which is connected to the pcb 2.1v.

Solar panel connected to pcb. Measurment taken at the array battery terminals 1.5v.

I would expect higher voltages in sunshine.
