VP2+ with WeatherLink Live and Meteobridge Pro
« on: September 09, 2020, 03:13:32 AM »
I've ordered a Davis WeatherLink Live to use with my VP2+ and Meteobridge Pro.

I can see in the MB Pro Station Tab setup where I would connect the MB Pro to the WLL. I called Davis Instruments to ask about connecting the two and they were of no help and referred me to Meteobridge. I seem to be on my own with this configuration.

Has anyone here used this configuration and can offer experience / advice?

You're posting as if there was something unusual or tricky about using WLL and MB together. There isn't!

Just follow the instructions for setting up WLL and then set WLL as the station type on MB. You'll just need to find the IP address of the WLL on your LAN. (eg look at your router settings or use a free network scanner like AngryIP).  I'm using this combination of WLL+MB and I'm sure there are dozens, maybe hundreds, of others (at least in conjunction with some flavour of MB).

Thanks John! I certainly feel less alone now!
One of the things I was concerned about was signal strength.
My MB Pro had to be changed from -90 to -80db to have a reliable RF connection to my VP2+.
Did you previously run the MB by itself, and if so did you notice a signal strength improvement with the WLL?
How is the WLL barometer, indoor temp, indoor humidity handled as those are on board my MB Pro and not reliable because of heat.

Not quite sure what you mean about signal strength. In the configuration that (I think!) you're planning to use then the WLL unit is the receiver for data from the ISS etc. You'll then have a local area network connection (presumably WiFi, but not necessarily) between WLL and MB. So as long as the WLL is positioned to get a good ISS signal and also a decent WiFi signal then all should be fine.

You can either use the WLL directly with the ISS (recommended) or point the WLL to the IP address of the MB Pro using port 22222.

I have my MB Nano attached to my Davis Console and the WLL collecting ISS data directly. The WLL sends to Weatherlink.com

I then have CumulusMX grabbing the data from the WLL and feeding various online services and my website.

...or point the WLL to the IP address of the MB Pro using port 22222.

I'm not aware that works, unless you've got experience to the contrary. As far as I know, WLL is a wireless VP2/Vue-only device and the only data inputs it recognises are the wireless transmissions from Vue/VP2 transmitters. So a port 22222 type network input would not be expected to work.

But maybe I misunderstood the post?

Is it required to go through the Bluetooth phone setup?
Can you configure the WLL by simply entering the WLL IP number in a browser?
I don't think I'm currently interested in setting up weatherlink.com or paying for a subscription.

No compulsion to pay the subscription at all. Current data and associated features is free - sub is only for historic data. Not sure what there is to lose by setting up the free part of the account - the browser app is also quite a handy extra way of seeing your data and making changes to the WLL configuration.

Since you have a WLL you may as well report to wl.com  the davis phone app isnt bad, and you check your weather station against local sites too. the basic service is free and gives you a few 5 widgets you can place on a website too.

UPS says my WLL will be delivered before 9PM tomorrow!
I watched the weatherlink.com video on the Davis site.
I agree, why not give it a try as it's free.

I use Weathercloud with my VP2 and Meteobridge. No need to pay for a subscription and you can download data for the last year as a csv if needed.

Got my WeatherLink Live today and I've been trying to make it work for several hours with limited success.
I even purchased Pro for both my phone and my computer (Geesh you have to pay for Pro for EACH device!)
My phone and computer data remains static for the past several hours. Nothing changes.
My VP2 Console shows Temp decreasing as night falls.
No changes on other devices.

I've connected my Meteobridge Pro to the WLL IP.
My WU, AWEKAS, and Windy have all stopped working.
Live data on my Meteobridge shows nothing from my VP2.

This was supposed to be simple and nothing is working.
I've checked and double checked and all seems to be in order.
Yet nothing is working the way it should.
This is frustrating.

OK.
I went back to the very beginning and went through setup step-by-step on my phone.
As usual for  me, it must have been user error somewhere.
All is working as it should!
Now to play with this for a while and I'll check back in later.

Barometric Pressure is 0.03 higher on WLL than on the VP2 Console.
Which is correct?  #-o

Trader, if you set up a station at weathercloud anyone can view it without an account. Weatherlink do not give much away for free to anyone - even to weather station owners and contributors.

Thanks Robbie. I don't see where you display a link to WeatherCloud. I already upload to Weather Underground, AWEKAS, and Windy. Adding WeatherCloud sounds like a good idea. As small as a data packet from VP2 is, I'm sure it adds almost no overhead to the Meteobridge Pro.

I've been playing with my WeatherLink and locally it is updating at 2.5 second intervals. I love to watch weather real-time as it's happening and that is a very important feature for me.

I updated WeatherLink to Pro and that gives me data storage and the ability to slice and dice charts better than any app I've seen so far. I'm impressed and I consider the WeatherLink Pro upgrade well worth the price.

Anyone can have a Weatherlink.com account for free to view other shared stations, even if they don't own a station themselves.

You should be able to calibrate them to match each other. But first, are they at the same level?

I didn't have to pay for the pro version for both. As long as you are signed in on the app and the computer should carry over.

Yes, George, both the VP2 Console and WLL are configured at the same height above sea level.

I am now finding that both the Meteobridge Pro and WLL barometric pressure numbers agree!
So of course I'm going with what WLL is telling me and not making any offset adjustments.  :-)
