Have just completed the amplifier board and performed the first successful hardware test on it. :D  :D  :D LEDs lit up like they were supposed to, and the pot turned the yellow ones on in the correct sequence. Yes!!!! First electronics build I've done in over 10 years. Now to work on the controller.

Thanks folks. The amp board was pretty easy compared to doing the GPS module on the controller board, but I'm not in any hurry. Plus I still haven't made it to Lowe's yet, anyway.

John, (and anyone else building the controller)

Don't forget to lay down the 100uF electrolytic caps under the ST board! The leads need a 90 degree bend.
You will need to be extra careful to mind the polarity and the direction of the lead bend.
The photos show this and the assembly hints do as well, but I forgot this. (it was late, yeah that's a good excuse)
I had to make a run to the local electronics store and get new caps.

In my opinion, they should have made the silkscreen symbol show a rectangle with the outline of where the cap should go.

One other thing on the controller: Make sure you mount the LCD and Discovery on their connectors, before soldering the connectors into the 'mother' board! That absolutely insures the long plugs'n'pins line up properly! It was a good tip in the instructions, and something I had literally forgotten about from my long retired electronics career. I'm so glad they put that in there. =D>

Received a go ahead from Egon to place my order for a system RED kit  \:D/

He indicated he was expecting a shipment of parts in the next few days. So, here's hoping he gets everything he needs to begin filling some orders very soon. I've ordered the complete RED kit minus the ferrite and GPS antennas.

Now, it's nail-biting time waiting for the final word that it has shipped...

I must get going on that flat panel antenna so it is ready when the rest of the system arrives. Oh yes, I must also clean off my workbench - it's a disaster...
