I'd say I was speechless, but nothing surprises me anymore.

Yup, crazy 90% of the positive test should be negative because they are amplifying the test results beyond the 30% scale. Crazy S going on because of the upcoming election. BTW daughter-in-law was positive asymptomatic. Brother 61-year-old caught the virus run a fever for 7 days just took Vit C and D at the time we didn't know about the Querecitin + zinc.  Couple friends here in town also have caught it so it's real for sure. We went from 6 cases to 71 positive yesterday in just a couple weeks but people here are only testing when actually sick, very few go to the drive by test.

I'm not sure this is analogous, but when I got drug tested in the agency, the tested substances had to meet a particular level of concentration before deeming it "in" the persons system. For instance, even if low levels of THC were detected in my urine, they couldn't definitively say I was a pot smoker just for the mere limitations of the test, i.e., a false positive. Think the general public knows that?

Yeah, that's why there is an amplification cutoff. The Coronavirus is common and been around for ages if they keep amplifying they will find traces of it but the viral load is so insignificant yet we have schools making 6-year-olds wear face mask and cancelling HS sporting events over 1 positive case. This is all total hogwash as far as I'm concerned.

Unfortunately, the Marxists socialist are trying to take over America because of our ultra-liberal press they are allowed to say and do anything including censor any speech they disagree with. That's why I have gone out on my own, I'm not going to have them in any way rule the roost. Total BS and I won't participate so out of here for the most part.  I came back to give a tip on how to defeat this virus or not catch it and that's all because I care.

[tup] Try telling that to the people that gobble this crap down hook, line, and sinker and think they're completely "in touch" with reality.

Reality IS coming and it ain't gonna be pretty, whether it's by the governments hand, by it's law abiding citizens...or both.

Really?  Day after day with no deaths.  No significant lockdowns.  Up here (Canada) there have been far more deaths from opioid overdoses than Covid.  Worl-wide, the total death count is a fraction of pretty much every scourge of mankind from cancer to heart disease to starvation.  Clearly, data is not your thing.

I'd say I was speechless, but nothing surprises me anymore.

And I thought conservative sources did not like the New York Times:

"The claim that the U.S. has an inflated COVID-19 case count due to the sensitivity of the diagnostic PCR test for the virus that causes COVID-19 has been published in several media outlets including One America News Network, The Blaze, Red State, and Townhall Media. The claim is a misinterpretation of a New York Times news report published on 29 August 2020, yet versions of the claim have received more than a million interactions on social media platforms like Facebook, according to the social media analytics tool CrowdTangle.

In short, the high number of COVID-19 cases observed in the U.S. is due to a high number of infected people in the community, not the PCR test’s sensitivity. Hence public health measures, such as physical distancing and lockdowns, are important for reducing the rate of infection in the community. Given testing bottlenecks in the U.S., the number of COVID-19 cases is much more likely to be underestimated, rather than overestimated as these videos and articles claim."

Wasn't the whole point of this thread to not pick sides, to not bring politics into the discussion. I thought we were supposed to discuss what was happening locally. What we were doing, what we see others doing, what the local government was doing...that sort of thing.

For my part I used to go to the grocery store every day (sometimes twice because I forgot something). Now I try to limit it once a week. Masks are required at the store. So far most are following this without too much complaint.

I know one, long time (40 years) friend that's died from covid and know quite a few others that have it, some have been hospitalized but most have recovered at home. One was scheduled for non elective surgery and it had to be postponed.

That statement has nothing to do with politics, but division within the science(s). That said, this virus is driven at the helm by politics to sway the American people, just like everything else now.

I have been at school for 3 weeks. (new school, private 7-12)

7-8 kids are there all days,

HS are every other day.

As of now, NO confirmed cases of CV19. Truly amazing.

Everyone wears a mask while on campus. No exceptions. One will be expected to be at home Monday for violating the rule. The only time I can be without a mask is in my room when I am alone.

In Iowa, up in NW a lot of new cases, beware.   Not sure why, perhaps packing plants, but in Iowa  , they report the numbers but never tell where and who.

Stay safe, take no chances and be very, very happy.  You earned it.

People are not social  distancing, but clustering together like files on a turd.   No masks, they don't care.  And now we are at the 1 million mark world wide in deaths.

It is simple,  get your flu shot (wife and I are going to get ours today), wear a mask,  (we also use face shields),  distance,  keep away from indoor places and crowds.  Wash your hands and definitely don't suck your fingers.

Look control is easy, but you can't convince people when you have a leader mock people who do wear masks.

I watched on NBC a old geezer saying that it was a hoax and he was going to party.    With that mentality, it is going to be a long time.

On a positive thought, the funeral business would be something for career for a young kid, you know the strange one  you have wondered about for years

But NBC was certainly presenting that there was another side to the story.  I only take that the media is being biased when it only wants to present one side to a controversial story.  That is frequently the story.

An Oklahoma town, Chickasha, recently rejected mandatory masks 8 to 1.

“If we were to pass this resolution, we would be passing something to make us feel good. We would not be passing anything that would have any effect on the community,” a city council member said.

“We’re trampling on people’s liberties, personal liberties," another city councilor said. "It didn’t pan out well for Norman. I say we don’t do it here."

"I don’t necessarily think it’s our place to tell everybody what to put on their face,” another city councilor added.

That town has had 654 cases and 6 deaths.

Oh, no, all ICU beds in Stillwater Regional Hospital are in use as of Monday. However, in the COVID unit, 9 out of 18 non-icu beds are still available. 21 out of 47 medical beds are still available. So things are not all bad.  Fortunately, new daily Stillwater covid cases have been trending down. There were only 9 cases on Monday. There were 21 cases on the statewide record setting day of Saturday, Oct. 10 when there were 1533 new cases reported. Recent peak day for Stillwater was 42 on Sept. 24.   Stillwater with 2138 all time cases as of Monday places it at no. 6  for most number of total cases of the cities in Oklahoma.

Meanwhile, the first round petition to vote to recall Stillwater mayor & city council members got enough signatures. The second required petition with more signatures needed for it to go on ballot is now out. Some people are unhappy over required business closures ordered last spring and later on the city ordinance requiring masks. But the city council had no other choice, since the Oklahoma governor last spring ordered a shutdown of "non-essential businesses" in 19 of 77 Oklahoma counties, which included the county Stillwater is in.  That order expired last summer.  Oklahoma governor still doesn't require people to wear masks statewide.  It's still left up to cities to decide if it's important enough to do that. I will not sign the petition.

The State Department of Health on Thursday reported the seventh death in Stillwater related to COVID-19.

OSDH did not provide age and gender for Thursday’s fatalities. Earlier in the day, it sent a message to media that the daily report was delayed due to technical difficulties.

There were 10 other deaths across the state reported Thursday, four in Oklahoma County, and one each in Canadian, Cleveland, Craig, Delaware, Okfuskee and Stephens. Six men and five women were reported as the fatalities with nine being in the 65-and-older group, one 50-64 and one 36-49.

Stillwater has continued to trend down since coming off a September peak of active cases that numbered over 400. On Thursday, Stillwater had 175 active cases, according to OSDH.

Hospitalizations have been the main subject in the state’s mitigation efforts, with hospitals in Oklahoma City reporting capacity for ICU. Stillwater Medical Center on Thursday reported 6 of 7 ICU beds in use, with five of those being used by COVID-19 patients. SMC also reported having 14 COVID-19 patients in the regular COVID Unit, with four beds available.

In a news release Thursday, the Oklahoma Hospital Association noted that availability can also refer to staffing.

“Hospital ICU capacity is based on the number of staffed beds available. In other words, it doesn’t reflect the number of empty or occupied beds alone, rather the number of beds that the hospital has health care clinicians available to staff at a point in time,” the release reads. “To effectively manage hospital expenses, hospitals do not routinely staff empty beds on an ongoing basis. Capacity is tight at times year around even without a pandemic. As ICU needs arise, hospitals work to provide staff for more beds.”

In social media posts, SMC has noted that bed “types” can be fluid as rooms are converted from regular to COVID-19 rooms as needed, “and as equipment and care staff are available.” SMC also noted that their reported bed availability does not include maternal child health, rehab and emergency department beds.

OHA mentioned that one of the best ways to ensure that resources don’t get strained is if people continue to seek out regular health care.

“Regardless of hospital capacity and the current pandemic, it is important that Oklahomans do not delay needed health care,” the release states. “Hospitals across the state are safe and available to treat patients. Even when Oklahomans hear about low hospital capacity in their community, they should never hesitate to seek care when needed.”
