Uploading data from data logger from earlier point in day?
« on: March 09, 2018, 07:16:04 PM »
I have Cumulus set up with a Davis VP2 and USB datalogger.  It uploads to WU, CWOP, and PWS.  I just noticed that around 12 pm today my laptop must have lost an internet connection.  Is there a way to force a load from data in the data logger/console?

Yes, 2 possible ways for WU and PWS catch up.  Both of these would roll back Cumulus' data read from the datalogger and with the Catch Up set for WU and PWS would upload that data.  However, not sure what effect the Catch Up would have for the data that had already been uploaded and would be re-uploaded.

From the Cumulus FAQ:

1. If the disconnect was before the automatic daily backup was made by Cumulus:
Use the 'rewind feature' of Cumulus.  Look in the backup folder for the backup which Cumulus took when it first started up today. Stop Cumulus, copy all of the files from that backup folder into the data folder (overwriting the files which are there) - this restores Cumulus to the state it was in before you ran it today. Start Cumulus and it should then download the data (from the date when it last stopped running onwards), to get up to date.
As mentioned elsewhere, you can even choose an older back-up and rewind back further providing the information is in the station logger. Remember however, that when you restart Cumulus it will only have access to observations at the station's logging interval, so any extremes picked up by the frequent querying of the station while Cumulus was previously running during the period you are now rewinding may be lost.

2. Cumulus deliberately doesn’t attempt to download any data from before the point when you first run it. If you wish, although this isn't recommended, you can force it to download data from any point by editing the ‘Timestamp’ line in the today.ini file (in the data folder), before starting it (you will need to have run it at least once previously). Note that if you do this, it is at your own risk, and you will need to sort out any issues which may arise yourself.
If you do this, you will probably need to edit your log files in the data folder as you may have duplicate entries and/or entries out of order. Your rain totals will almost certainly also be wrong - the total for "today" in particular. See the FAQ entry about correcting rainfall data. If you have only just started using Cumulus, you could delete all of the files in the data folder, and just create a simple today.ini as below. Then when you start Cumulus, processing will start again with just the data from the station's logger.

Enjoy,
Paul
