Bios Weather Station/rain guage problem
« on: January 12, 2009, 03:32:38 AM »
I have a Bios Weather Station, (cheap, I know but actually pretty acurate)
The rain guage has on a couple of occasions recorded extreme rain amounts
even in dry conditions. As much as 16 inches even when no actual rain.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

start off by checking connections;) and also checking your rain gauge out for any corrosion and nicks in wires

Yes, as Josh said, check connections. I've found with the LaCrosse station (also cheap one) that sometimes just unplugging and reconnecting a plug several times clears a problem. Oxidation on the contacts from weathering plays havoc on connections. :-)
Not sure about the Bios rain guage but inside mine there's a reed switch that opens/closes for each tip of the see-saw bucket. If your cables and connections check out o.k. and yours has a reed switch you may want to check that out. If it's not opening and closing completely it will give erratic readings.

Consider dielectric grease.
