PWS showing as offline when actually it's online
« on: August 20, 2023, 02:13:18 PM »
I live in San Diego County.  With the approach of Hurricane Hilary, I was looking forward to accessing the historical data for my PWS as the storm moved through our area.  Before going to be bed last night (about 9pm Pacific), I checked my PWS page and everything was working properly.  My station showed as online and data was there (both current and historical).  When I got up this morning I was disappointed to discover that my station's public facing summary is showing as offline as of about 12:30am today.   The historical data prior to about 12:30am is still there. This is my station:

As of this message, it has shown as offline for the entire day.  Of course, the first thing I did was go to my Weather Underground account to check on the status of my PWS.  There it shows that my station is online.  Here's a screen shot (with key removed):

Has my station been removed from the "map" because of suspected inaccurate data?  If so, how do I go about getting that fixed?  More importantly, once my station is back so it is publicly available again, will the missing historical data (since about 12:30am) be available?

Thanks,

Mark

I reached out to Weather Underground through their contact process with absolutely no reply whatsoever.  I finally gave up.  I deleted my previous device for Weather Underground, reset the Acurite and started all over.  It took about 30 minutes for Weather Underground to build/publish the new site, but it's working again.

I really wish there was an easy way to configure the Acurite to use a different site than Weather Underground.

What is the BEST personal weather station when you want to be independent, hosting your own PWS station data tracking on your own server?  I don't need a site that has maps and radar and such, I can get that on my phone.  I just want to track historical data.

For hosting your own PWS station on your own server to keep historical records is not a function of the weather station (necessarily) but rather the weather software you use. I use Weather Display (WD) and host my weather station on a Synology NAS server, but WD runs on a PC and stores all data there. The WD-created records are on my server here: https://novawx.dscloud.me/wxhistory.php. I also produce daily graphs from the WD data - one example for 31 Aug 23 is here: https://novawx.dscloud.me/20230831-daily.php.

There's other weather software available besides WD and I suggest you look at the Weather Software section of this Forum. I hope others will weigh-in and reply to you with their recommendation.
