Vantage Pro 2 Cabled Version Question
« on: October 01, 2008, 03:38:18 PM »
A friend of mine has the cabled version of the VP2. He needs to replace the cable between the ISS and the console. He asked me if he can use regular telephone cable for this function. Does anyone know or have any experience with this cable?

Thanks,

Steve

I would recommend CAT5 cable instead

I used CAT 5 cable to move my ISS about 75' from the console and it works fine. Radio Shack sells 100' phone cable, that is rated for outdoor use, for $13.99 in your choice of black or white.

Do you then attach your own RJ-11 plugs to the CAT5 cable so it will fit into the VP2 station and console?

Thanks,

Steve

The jacks will fit in the ISS and console OK. Just be careful to get the proper pin-out. The cable is "straight through" unlike a phone patch cord that crosses over. If you hold both plugs side-by-side and compare the color code you'll see they have the same orientation in the plug.
