High winds cause rain readings on Atlas
(1/1)
Flying_German:
Hello all.
Today is a windy day.
So far my Atlas has recorded over 1" of rain except it didn't rain a drop.
Obviously the wind blows down the funnel and tips the bucket.
Is there a hack for this? Or is it just what it is when it blow upwards 20 mph?
Mattk:
Obviously 35' above the ground is higher than it should be, same with 20' above the roof line.
How rigid is your mounting pole? There could also be some vibration through that at higher wind speeds.
With all-in-ones always there has to be a happy medium, you have it high for wind purposes but that's not a good height for rain.
DoctorKnow:
There is a wind extension kit for the Atlas. I have one, it works well. You don't want the rain gauge 30 ft high. It should be 5 ft high.
Flying_German:
The Atlas is in the exact spot on the exact post that my Iris has sat for over 7 years.
And I never had any issues with the Iris reading rain when the winds blow hard.
If I remember correctly, the manual says to install at high as possible to get most accurate
wind readings, which is what I had already done in 2017 when I installed my Iris.
I guess it just is what it is, but I was hoping that someone had a workaround.
Although the workaround seems to be to get the sensor suite as low to the ground
as possible and then use the wind extension.
Unfortunately that is not really an option for me at this time.
Maybe later.
Thanks guys.
