Wundermap Dodgy Data
« on: May 01, 2019, 04:16:31 AM »
Another feature which has been dropped in the latest version of the WU Dashboard is the ability to report bad data, not that anything ever appeared to happen when bad data was reported. WU do not appear to be able to pull blatantly bad data off the map, which ultimately is degrading the product. Advertisers, take note !

You have to wonder sometimes about overall data quality.  The majority of pws in my area provide very poor wind data in particular.  I have to confess one of my own stations is very poorly sited in that regard.  There was a station just down the road that had been installed 180  degrees out of whack, for example.

I presume that WU has a quality algorithm that assesses each station based on comparison with nearby stations and  the variability and  randomness of its own data (eg, highly variable wind direction in stronger wind regimes).

So maybe it would be nice to include a configurable quality level filter in Wundermap?

But not now! Decimals on temps first!  :-)
