Weather Underground Data Upload Query

My station uploads data to Wunderground throughout the day and also uploads stored data from my logger when the computer has been closed down over night.

When I click on "Weather Underground Settings" in VWS and then click the "Upload Now" tab it starts an upload sequence of sometimes many thousands of files. Can anyone please tell me what is happening there?

I am confused why this should happen when I upload normally during the day.  #-o
