Cumulus Firmware Upgrade
« on: May 20, 2025, 01:52:36 PM »
Today the firmware upgrade light was blinking, I assume that the firmware needs updating. Is this a manual operation or is it  done automatically? This will be the first time for me to do this. New user.

Hi,
Generally the previous CumulusMX "program" version will continue to work without issue.  However, as CumulusMX is in constant development for new stations, sensors, and features, periodic program upgrades are published and that will trigger the (red) CMX Upgrade notice.  It is a manual process to upgrade the CumulusMX program.

Latest version download zip is at https://cumuluswiki.org/a/Software#Latest_build_distribution_download

For most upgrades it is as simple as:
With CMX stopped, copy all the files and folders from the new unzipped download and paste into the existing \CumulusMX folder so to over-write existing.

Restart CMX, and that should be it.

Of course, as always MAKE SURE you have a good full backup in the event of any power or issue during the upgrade.

Enjoy,
Paul

I did search Cumulus for a new version or patch and could not see any newer than my version 4.4.5 (4088). On the learning curve. The flashing red firmware upgrade meant that the GW1200 firmware that was feeding Cumulus needed updating.
Updated the firmware and restarted Cumulus with the executable, light back to green. Thank you for your input.

Ahh, CMX Upgrade (Cumulus) vs weather station Firmware Upgrade (i.e. Ecowitt).

Glad you found the difference and are up to date.
My comments are still valid for CumulusMX program upgrade, which may be sooner than later ;)

Enjoy,
Paul
