I know in a small half acre yard with lots of trees around the entire perimeter and full sun near the house in the wireless range nothing is perfect.
So...you want something you can put in the sun (where PWS's belong in the first place) and not be jacked up by a poor radiation shield and/or lack of fan, and you're also worried about receiving the wireless. Hmmm....lets see...how about a 24hr or DFARS VP2? It may not be what you want to spend, but it'll certainly do exactly what you want, reliably, and you can remote the anemometer should you choose. My advise, save up and do it right the first time.

Yeah, I considered that. I want something that is WiFi and will publish to WU without being connected to a computer. I realize there are many solutions for that with the VP2. But from what I understand (which I admit is very little) it is more than I want to pay and it sounds like a kludge of components requiring a lot of set up tinkering. I don't mind spending $500 or $600, but I don't want to spend $1000 or more and I was hoping for something a little more plug and play than the VP2 sounds like it is.

Well, with the early winter weather this fall, it is too late now to install anything before spring, so I will try to keep learning by reading the posts from the experts here on the forum. Maybe I will learn enough to make a decision by spring.

Thanks again. I appreciate your advice.

For the GW1002 all you need is to add the RS-00001 radiation shield or there may be other similar solutions. Yes it isn't aspirated but results are not bad. If I get a spike it is but maybe a degree or two ...nothing crazy. I guess every environment is different...there seems to always be some wind where I'm at. You could also construct your own Stevenson Screen, and even put a fan in it.

Also the Acurite Atlas has an extension for the anemometer....making it so that isn't as much an all-in-one but it does need to stay on the same pole. It's an option is all I'm saying.

Sure. Further food for thought...I made a post several months back about how astonished I was about how many people on this board complain about lack of reception from their "array". If you want to avoid potentially dancing around your house looking for a place to put your console only to find it only works in the attic, your call. A PWS that you can't receive is nothing more than an outdoor paperweight.

Dodgy temp readings being supplied by my GW-1000 again..

That low temp wasn't recorded by any of the consoles.

Likely a corrupt data packet that's been badly interpreted.
I would suggest flagging it to Ecowitt so that they can look at your data on Ecowitt.net.
Hopefully they can tune the GW-1000 software to look for these 'unlikely' values that suddenly deviate and ignore them.
I recall it was always a problem on my old N96 Console that Cumulus took care of with rules.

Hi,

May I know have you upgraded the GW1000 firmware to the latest version: V1.5.4?

Hi,

I didn't know there was a new one?

I just checked, and there's no update available for me. Still on v1.5.3

Have my HP2552 with PM 2.5 sensor running for 5 days now.

I really love it.
So much air pollution right now of all those wood burning stoves.
It's beginning to be a pain in the ass.  :?

I saw on the weather map that there are some stations in the Shenzen region that already have lightning detectors. Can't wait to get one of those.

Welcome to the forum.
Likewise here in the UK the air pollution is quite obvious as all the central heating and wood fire effects kick in each day first in the morning and then in the evenings!

The lightning detector is still in development so might be a little while before we see it available.

Thank you Mandrake.
I learned of Ecowitt via this forum. Just sold my WS-2000.
I especially like the way all the sensors can be purchased apart.

I contacted Lucy and she was verry helpfull. Received all the sensors and the display within 5 days from shipping date.

I have the GW1000, wireless raingauge, the anemometer, PM 2.5 sensor and indoor en outdoor temp and humidity sensors.

Lucy would notify me if the lightning detector goes for sale.
I really can learn a lot on this forum.  [tup]

Great service deserves to be trumpeted and I can think of few companies that go to the lengths that Ecowitt do to make sure their customers are happy.
It helps of course that they care about their products and are keen to evolve them always which is a double win for us all!

Hmm. really interesting thread here. Wasnt aware of all the sensors Ecowitt has to offer above and beyond Davis.
PM 2.5 is really cool and if effect can do what the soils sensors davis offers for less.
More for less hmmmm.
What sensor SHT model does ecowitt use?

More convoluting options for what station i go with to replace my WMII that has seen its day.

The current sensors on the Fine Offset (Ambient/Misol/Aercus/Ecowitt etc.) sensors and arrays are Sensiron SHT30
One of our members has upgraded one to a SHT35 without issue though this does require a degree of skill to undertake the SMT soldering required.

This thread has reached its usefulness. At this point it seems the thread has just become the place for all things Ecowitt. Although that works well for people following the thread it makes it disorganized and difficult for new users to find useful information. It is best to start new threads for new topics.

Ecowitt has earned its rightful place to have its name as part of the sub-board title (notice new board name).

This thread is now closed. Please search before starting a new thread, and append to other existing threads to stay on topic, or start a new thread for new subject matter.
