Hello,

I would like to mount my Wittboy on a mast on my roof (I don't have many choices).
However it seems that the heat reflected by the tiles will artificially raise the temperature measured.
How tall should the mast be to have a good reading of the temperature ?
I would not like to have it higher than the roof peak (I'm afraid of lightning) and precise wind measurement is not so important to me.
On the picture below, you can see the mast position (south is on the right side).

Thanks a lot in advance

Strangely I just had a heavy rainfall

I have not checked the manual gauge as I expect more rain and there is a ton of lightning

wh40 .52". 13.2 mm
ws90 .56", 14.2 mm
wh65  .65", 16.5 mm

no calibrations on any sensor

now, is this a normal thing for me to see, no. Even with the latest firmware on the WS90
Take a lot more logged data , I mean a huge amount, rain rate comparisons, etc etc

So based on this , your calibrations would be way off for me. All in fun

After updating ws90 from v1.1.7 to v1.2.3
Rain over a day from ws90 and wh40, all gains set at default of 1.

ws90  19.2mm day
wh40  13.1mm day

with me it was from 1.1.9 to 1.2.3 for my 2nd revision WS90 (gain 1.0) - and it has become much more sensitive and counts more than before now. This should be a good point to start calibration.

My first revision WS90 (ß-model) is still (intentionally) on 1.1.9 and reads less (gain 1.0)
I'll leave it there for reference.
Now more rain days needed ...

@Arkadiusz_w

I wonder if the issue you were experience with your gateway and flatlining data is now resolved with the latest firmware?

I had 2 GW2000 gates. One works from the beginning without any problems on the same software, the other has problems from the beginning.

I don't know, one of the goals went to kick. I disassembled the second one, even though it worked without any problems. Now I only have GW1100 x2.

Do you like my ASCII art ?
It seemed overkill to use a png or jpeg for that, so I went with another approach which may raise eyebrows (and answers).
But nobody replied so far, perhaps I should try to write to Ecowitt directly.

I set a new gain for the 1.2.3 software in the WS90 Wittboy.

So far I had only a dozen or so minutes of convection rainfall.

Gain set to all buffs is 0.6, with a value of 1.0 there is a significant increase in rainfall. Compared to a tray and manual rain gauge.

Results:

0.6 mm - WS90 Wittboy
0.7 mm - WS40

After my conclusions, I changed to 0.7 and I am waiting for more downpours. More rainfall is forecast for me at the weekend. It will be a good test for rain gauges.

Today I noticed that I can access the GW2000 using a web browser using 2 different IP Addresses. I later realized that one is for wifi and the other is for ethernet.

How do I disable wifi on the gw2000? I didn't see an option for that. Thanks

remove the router password for WiFi access in the WebUI - then it will no longer be able to connect
1. remove password
2. save (Apply) --> there will be an error message - ignore it
3. log in again to the WebUI by using the IP address only
4. check local network --> the IP address and related information should now all be 0.0.0.0
Your SSID might remain but without password it doesn't matter

funny thing, after I did that (and 0.0.0.0 for all the wireless IP addresses), I noticed it was not publishing to Ecowitt.net anymore, so I deleted the device and re-binded it. Still wasn't publishing after about 1 hr, so I rebooted the GW2000 and my router password re-appeared and immediately starting publishing to ecowitt.net

Is this expected behavior that it requires wireless to publish to ecowitt.net?

I don't think so - one of my GW2000s has only the LAN interface connected (WiFi interface address 0.0.0.0) and posts properly to ecowitt.net
Maybe your router password only reappeared because it was saved in/by the browser ....
you may have to repeat the procedure - and make sure your LAN IP is static

I did a factory reset of the GW2000 and connected it to LAN only. I didn't changed the settings of the wifi nor connected to the AP of the GW2000 after reset. When the connection with Lan was OK and the settings (I wrote down) were but back in the device, the Wifi AP disappeared and it still uploads to external weather websites.
Also after reboots or firmware updates, the Wifi AP is not coming back nor problems with uploading.

I don't think it has to do with the GW2000's own network in which it becomes an access point after reset. This is only for a WiFi device to connect to the GW2000 and provide the WiFi router SSID and password to connect wirelessly to the local LAN. It then receives with those credentials the IP address from the router's DHCP server and integrates into the local network via the local network AP (which is different from the GW2000 AP).
Apart from these technicalities, without a proper router password the GW2000 can no longer register with SSID/password in the WLAN (even with its already received dynamic IP), so the DHCP server/router doesn't recognize it anymore. With the password provided it may still recognize it again inside the lease time of the dynamic IP.

With a factory reset (not just reboot - you have to press the middle button for 10-15 seconds !) all information gets lost, and when one then connects the LAN interface only, all communication goes via the LAN interface only.
My earlier suggestion was making the GW2000 "forget" its password and dynamic WLAN IP address without a factory reset.

Any ideas how to correct the station location? Mine should be in Northern Europe but coordinates show somewhere by the Red Sea.

Both show wrong coordinates. What's really strange, is that on the App's map, the station is shown about 80 km away from the actual location.

this (the latter) can happen when you don't enter your coordinates explicitly but let the "system" determine your location - depending on the internet provider, your IP address and the used databases, your location can be shown as quite some distance away. I noticed this in some application where the web application claimed (based on my internet connection) that my location was even 150 km away from where I really live.

In most web applications , you can enter your GPS coordinates, actually your lat and long . If you don't , they may rely on geolocation based on your IP address, as Gyvate mentioned, if you are using a VPN, this can really be off base.

Are there specific sites that have erroneous location for you?. If so , there is a body of people here that can probably tell you where you need to manually , place your coordinates in order for the whatever web site to be correct.  Just inform us , what site.

This is all very interesting but my original question remains: "Any ideas how to correct the station location?" :)

 edit: I found it in the App. Go menu (burger thing on the left) , weather station and change it...

Unfortunately, WS90 Wittboy understates rainfall at short precipitation and overestimates rainfall at high intensity.

WS90 piezo - 15.3 mm
WS40 - 16.9 mm

WS90 Piezo - 0.7 mm Gain for Wittboy 0.6
WS40 0,6 mm Gain for WS40 1.022

Soft in WS90 Wittboy 1.2.3. Wittboy's 1.0 gain settings will increase rainfall for any intensity. In my opinion, achieving the same results as in the channel rain gauges is not always possible.

I had a short convection rainfall at the end of July. Back then, the WS90 Wittboy measured 0.7 mm, while the WS40 was 0.6 mm. Gain was 0.6 set. I gave the boost to 0.7, but there has been no rain for over a week.

I have no comments about the ultrasonic wind sensor. It measures the wind well and accurately against reference wind gauges. Unfortunately, its measurement range is up to 40 m / s, but a firmware update is to be released soon, which will extend the measurement range to higher values. Up to about 60 m / s. It is a pity that laminar wind speed from 0.1 m / s, 0.2 m / s is also not measured, as in the more expensive Lufft, Vaisala, etc.

Unfortunately you are not alone in your discoveries.
You can read the entire thread and see how many of us have a varying experience at different rain rates

I am, at this time, not recommending this unit to anyone. We had high hopes when this appeared with the haptic technology, but not ready for prime time is unfortunately what I think, and probably others. I have not seen a post where someone has come out and said it works great and is accurate. The level of calibration required takes it out of the realm of simplicity.

Wh40 sensor or other tipping bucket (WH65) is still my go to and what I recommend to others. And frankly, I thought I could store a whole bunch of data and come up with decent calibration points , at least for me. I have abandoned that quest, just too much work and even when done, would be questionable on accuracy.

This is always the problem when one has multiple measuring devices, sensors, regardless of field. The individual with only one, is usually satisfied with accuracy, gets a 2nd one, then questions everything. We are a bit beyond that.

I bought the WS90 weather station two weeks ago. Needing to replace my WH3080 that has been working for 5 years and now seems to reset itself with more than 9.9mm of rain. I decided to go to something more innovative. Currently I am regretting it, the station's anemometer and thermometer hygrometer seems to give the same results as the wh3080 which mounts the sensor inside a DIY passive screen. For rain I think I have a failed unit. After upgrading to firmware v123 (119 was giving nonexistent rain readings) and playing with gain a bit, I find that after a rain event the haptic sensor continues to report between 0.6 and 1.2mm/h for several hours (look at attachment). I have written to support and the only response I have received is to wait for a reply from the firmware team. I am not happy at all, if I went back I would buy anemometer, thermometer hygrometer and rain gauge separately and put the thermometer inside my passive screen. At the moment I don't feel like recommending it, to remedy the problem, however, I bought a wh40 since I no longer have stations that can detect rain.
