2902 Wind Direction module won't connect
« on: April 08, 2023, 11:44:19 AM »
I just upgraded to the WS-2902D display. The wind direction is not displaying. It is pegged to the north and never changes. I have ordered and installed a new wind direction module. This was the case with the old 2902 display as well. When installing the new module the batteries were taken out and put back in. The "Light/snooze" button on the display was held down until reset with the same result. All other measurements work (wind speed, temp., humidity, rain, UVI, pressure). So is the outdoor unit bad? Am I missing something? Thanks
It always rains on tents. Rainstorms will travel thousands of miles, against prevailing winds for the opportunity to rain on a tent.”

To be clear, even with the new module installed you still are not receiving wind direction?
Did you do a reset of the outdoor unit (taking the batteries out is not a reset)?
Also there is a hard reset that could be attempted.

The other thing to consider is are you sure you are receiving data from your unit and not someone else's?

     - That is correct. even with the new module I am not receiving any wind direction data.

     - Not sure how to reset the outdoor array, other than taking out the batteries. Thoughts?

Also there is a hard reset that could be attempted.
     - Are you talking about a hard reset on the outdoor array or the indoor display? I haven't done a hard reset on either unit. That would mean starting completely from step #1. Willing to do that, but wonder if there are other options first.

The other thing to consider is whether are you sure you are receiving data from your unit and not someone else's?
     - I am sure of this. The closest station is an Accurite and both it and the closest Ambient are over 300 ft away from my station.

Take a look at your manual for the location of the reset button on the array:

Reset Button and Transmitter LED
In the event the sensor array is not transmitting, reset the sensor array.
Using a bent-open paperclip, press and hold the RESET BUTTON (see Figure 8) to affect a reset: the LED turns on while the RESET button is depressed, and you can now let go. The LED should then resume as normal, flashing approximately once every 16 seconds.

A "hard" reset involves removing the batteries and covering the solar panel for a few days until the unit stops transmitting.

Now, it could very well be a problem with your array which is why the old 2902 didn't see wind direction, and why the replacement module isn't working.  But try the reset first.

Thank you. I needed to reset the outdoor array, with a paper clip, not just remove the batteries. It is now working. I am now reading all data on the indoor display from the outdoor array. Problem solved. Thank you again.

This is good news, and also, you should be able to use your old 2902 display as well (disable any upload stuff on it) and use it as a 2nd display.
