Title: Can't reconnect WS-2902 to home WIFI network
Post by: Shvedi on February 04, 2023, 02:39:07 AM
Hi everyone.
I have the first version of WS-2902, bought it on November 2017 and it has been workin since then.
It was always connected to the home WIFI network without any issue, even when I replace routers or homes.
Last week there was an elecricity  outgage here, not very common but it happens about 3 times a year. It happend before and the station resumed the connection after elecricity recovering - but not this time.
Since last week the console refuses to connect to home WIFI network.
I did everything by the book: disabled the 5Ghz network so only the 2.4GHz was working, disabled the cellular data on my phone, and tried over and over again to connect through the awnet app for Android. My phone is Google Pixel 4a.
Every time, the app recognize my ssid, but after I enter the password nothing happens, until I get the message "Connected time out".
The awnet app icon has the numbers "2018" on it.

What can I do?
How can I reconnect my WS-2902 to home WIFI network?

I had the same issue, I used the WS View ecowitt app and it worked.

So Although, the AmbientWeather tool fails to work, wsview still does?
This is interesting.

Thanks, I'll try this option.

I had the same issue, I used the WS View ecowitt app and it worked.
Did not work - all I got is a message "Can not find device".
What else can I do except buying a new console that I don't really need?

Assuming you have the little wifi symbol on the console , and you are on the console wifi network (ssid) (not your home network), then it could be that the WiFi module is starting to die.  You could also try a reset of the unit.

If you do not care about uploading data to Ambient, you could just get an Ecowitt GW1100 and upload to Ecowitt and other weather services that way.

OR.. Ambient did have an upgrade program, but you could get a new 2902D with 10% off for like $72 now, or search eBay for a unit.

It would seem to me that you can either use Ambient's trade up offer and get a new console for ~$45 or continue using your weather station as is in local mode only (no publishing to WU or Ambientweather.net).

I thought that trade up discount ended at the end of January, if not , than I am in error and disregard.

I was really hoping that the use of the WSView app as opposed to the Ambient app, would resolve this. But, I fully get it , if it didn't

You are probably right ... I didn't read all the fine print in the offer. It might be worth a call to Ambient to find out.

A gw1000 could also be an alternative solution

I think , that is a good approach. There are other alternatives of course, as have been suggested . But an item like the the GW1100/GW2000 series will not provide you with a physical visual console, which I am guessing is what you want. I would indeed contact Ambient.

@Rover1822:
a) but the console still works, only doesn't connect to the network/internet => a GW1100 could solve this issue (but cannot post to ambientweather.net - to all other networks yes)
b) the WS View and awnet app are both written by Fine Offset/Ecowitt - so not so astonishing that things often work also with WS View (Plus) instead of awnet
@Shvedi:
c) did you press the proper two buttons to put the console into WiFi mode and did the app configuration while it was still in pairing mode ?
d) did you ignore a possibly popping up message saying that the network cannot connect to internet ? (you have have to accept the network in spite of this message)

Is not the goal, to assist the individual to where they were, without extra expense, configuration?

So I stand on the individual should contact Ambient.

Of course Gyvate, the other options are available if the issue is not resolved. Maybe there is another resolution? maybe not , but lets hold off.

The wifi symbol is off. It flashes only when I try to reconnect by pressing rain+alarm for 5 seconds.
I have the GW1000, but the indoor sensor is somewhwere else in the house, with differece of about 1.5 degrees celsius from the console.

you mean your GW1000 with its indoor sensor is somewhere else in the house I guess. And the indoor T/H there is different from the WH2910 console location - to be expected.
There could be several technical solutions depending on if you care about the indoor T/H of the GW1000:
e.g.
- get yourself a new GW1100 (GW1000 no longer produced) and place it close to your WH2910 console
- if the now GW1000 T/H values are not important for you, you could get a WH32 indoor sensor (T/H/P) and unsolder one (or both) of the external T/H sensor wires from the GW1000 mainboard.
It will then pick up the signal from the WH32B (WH32 indoor). The radical solution would be cutting off the wires  8-).
Both solutions remain in the order of magnitude of 20-30 USD - as opposed to getting a new WH2910/WS-2902 console (~70 USD).
As a precaution, place a powerbank between your charger and the WH2910/WS-2902 console to avoid/bridge power outages.

Thank you for the wise advices.
I'll get wh32 and put it near the console.
About your last advice - it is a very good advice, but I should have done it much earlier...

Just make sure you get yourself a WH32B (WH32 indoor - 3-in-1 T/H/P sensor) and not the WH32 outdoor !!
They may be easily confused ...

The "B" stands for barometer. See https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=40730.0
